Charter School in Academy District 20.

New Summit Charter Academy, is one of two charter schools within Academy District 20 in Colorado Springs, CO. New Summit Charter Academy was founded as a tuition-free, K-6 elementary school in 2018, added grade 7 in 2019, and then grade 8 and preschool in 2020, and hopes to open a high school in future years as our K-8 program continues to grow. New Summit believes in teaching children a love of learning and inspiring them to reach new summits.

This crew never gets enough credit, but is outside each afternoon helping our students get safely on their way home and keeping the lower carpool line moving.

Next time you roll through the carline, give these familiar faces a wave! And a big THANK YOU to our crew for braving the Colorado weather and afternoon carline every day!

We asked our parents one simple question: What has made the biggest difference in your child’s success? 🤍

Their answers reminded us that success is about so much more than grades.

Parents talked about teachers who truly know their children—their strengths, the areas where they need a little extra encouragement, and the ways they learn best. They shared how caring, patient, and engaged educators have helped their children grow not only academically, but also in confidence, independence, and character.

They pointed to hands-on learning, small-group instruction, clear expectations, individualized support, and opportunities for students to challenge themselves and step outside of their comfort zones.

But one theme came through again and again: children thrive when they feel known, supported, and believed in.

When a student walks into a classroom knowing their teacher cares about who they are, celebrates their progress, and believes in what they’re capable of, it changes the way they see learning—and, often, the way they see themselves.

That’s the kind of success we want to cultivate at New Summit Charter Academy. Not simply helping students reach the next academic milestone, but helping them become confident learners, thoughtful classmates, courageous leaders, and young people who know they are capable of doing hard things.

Because sometimes the biggest difference in a child’s success is simply having someone in their corner saying, “I see you. I believe in you. And I know you can do this.” 💙

Our preschool students had a yeti-tastic time celebrating their first week of school! From making new friends to settling into new routines, we’re so excited for all the learning, laughter, and adventures ahead.

The teacher matters more than almost anything else. A great teacher can completely change a child’s experience. Look for teachers who are kind, organized, encouraging, and genuinely invested in their students.
Ask how the school supports different learning styles. Every child learns differently. Find out whether the school offers hands-on learning, small groups, advanced classes, extra support, and opportunities for students to learn in different ways.
Pay attention to the culture, not just the test scores. Visit the school. Watch how students interact with teachers and with one another. A positive environment built on respect, communication, and kindness often says more than a data report.
Look for opportunities beyond academics. The best schools help children develop confidence, leadership, creativity, communication skills, and strong character—not just good grades.
Choose a school that aligns with your family’s values. Ask yourself: Will my child be known here? Will they feel safe? Will they be challenged? Will they be encouraged to become the person we hope they’ll become? The right school should feel like an extension of your family’s values, not just a place where your child spends the day.
