Thunder & Lightning Award
Week 1 of our 37 weeks!
Student chosen: Aniyah Clore – Senior
Aniyah is an outstanding senior at DCC who brings joy and leadership to our campus. She is a captain of our volleyball team and also participates in track, HOSA, and NHS. She has spent all four years in our Biomedical Pathway and hopes to attend the University of Hawaii next year to pursue nursing.
Aniyah takes pride in her work, supports the people around her, and is a true champion of her teammates and classmates. She is excited about everything ahead during her senior year, and we are excited to see the impact she continues to make!
Teacher/Staff chosen: Mr. Tom Hunter - Social Studies Teacher
Aniyah chose Mr. Hunter for this week's Thunder & Lightning Award because:
"Coming into my freshman year, he was one of my biggest advocates on the volleyball team. Since then, he has always supported me. He is a big reason that I met so many role models. He has really pushed me and challenged me."
Mr. Hunter does an amazing job teaching our history classes and, even more importantly, building authentic relationships with students.
What makes Aniyah's choice especially meaningful is that she has never had Mr. Hunter as a classroom teacher. Their connection began when he coached her as a freshman, and because of the relationship he built with her, Aniyah knows that he is still someone she can turn to today.
That is the kind of impact that extends far beyond a classroom, a season, or a single school year.
Mr. Hunter builds tremendous relationships with students, challenges them to grow, and demonstrates through his actions that he truly believes all students can succeed.
Congratulations, Aniyah and Mr. Hunter, and thank you, Thunder, for a fantastic first week!
And as Always ... Go Thunder!!!

Welcome back, Thunder! ⚡💜
As we kick off a new school year, we’re excited to continue one of our favorite traditions—the Thunder & Lightning Award! Last year we started the year with a jar of 37 golf balls—one for each week we have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our students. Each week, a student will help us recognize a staff member who has supported, encouraged, challenged, or championed them. This year, we’re continuing the tradition with our 37 Disco Ducks 🦆🪩⚡ as a fun reminder of the incredible impact our staff makes every day. 37 weeks. 37 opportunities. Countless ways to make a difference.
And as always...Go Thunder! 💜⚡
