IIM Opens Registration for July 2026 CDPO Examination Cohort

Nigeria's National Certification Body for Data Protection invites professionals to register for the next sitting of the Certified Data Protection Officer examination

The Institute of Information Management (IIM), the National Certification Body for Data Protection in Nigeria licensed by the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), has opened registration for its July 2026 Certified Data Protection Officer (CDPO) examination cohort.

The CDPO credential is the only data protection qualification issued by an NDPC-authorised body and aligned directly with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023. Holders of the CDPO designation are recognised by the Commission as having demonstrated the expert knowledge required of a Data Protection Officer under Section 32 of the NDPA 2023.

Examination details

Cohort: July 2026
Format: Structured examination administered by IIM and Training by IIM Authorised Training Organisations (ATO)
Eligibility: Open to data protection practitioners, compliance and legal professionals, IT and records managers, and any professional responsible for data protection governance within their organisation
Study support: Candidates have access to the NDPC Approved CDPO Study Guide and official practice examination (Mock)

Who should register

Any professional who is, or expects to become, a designated DPO under the NDPA 2023 should seek the CDPO credential. This includes:

Current and aspiring Data Protection Officers in private and public sector organisations
Compliance, legal, and risk professionals in banks, fintechs, telcos, hospitals, and insurers
HR, IT, and records management professionals with data protection responsibilities
Federal and state government officials managing citizen data under the NDPA 2023

Organisations with more than 2,000 data subjects or processing sensitive personal data are required under the Act to appoint a qualified DPO. The CDPO is the benchmark qualification for meeting this obligation.
