RIP Bunky Greene.
Willie loved Bunky, and worked together with him on several educational projects. There are 2 recordings on Mark
"Live at the 1982 NAJE Convention” , and "In love again" (1987)
Liner notes:
The In Love Again Combo Series
This new educational series was written to accompany the new In Love Again album. Combo parts in Bb, Eb,C and Bass make it possible to preform the albums arrangements with a varied combination of instruments. The combo series includes a special practice cassette reference tape, a Conductor's Guide and Mini-Method for developing correct style, phrasing, improvisation, the rhythm section and effective rehearsal techniques.
The In Love Again Combo Series will be the first of many jazz education products produced by the recently formed International Foundation For Jazz and distributed internationally under the auspices of the National Association Of Jazz Educators.

I had such a great time in Colorado Springs at the CMEA last weekend. Seeing people, young and old alike, so excited playing and valuing music education. It's so heartwarming and always motivates me to carry on! Welcome to all the new members who signed up for a membership and thanks to everyone who is spreading the word about Willie's curriculum, teaching this pinnacle of American art form called bebop.
Furthermore, a big thank you to all my neighbors at the booths. Although it was busy, there was always time for a little exchange of thoughts and ideas. My friends James Barela and Nick Ryan (Sweetwater) had fun at our booth. Also thanks to my neighbors Bob Newhouse (KHS America), Mobile studio (Jeff Grady & Oren Bregman) and the team from Graner music. It was a pleasure!

I'm a little behind with my social media upkeep. I had a wonderful time in Graz (Austria) a couple of weeks ago. Karl Rossmann invited me to come to the Johann Joseph F*x Konservatorium to perform my piece for Orchestra and Jazz sextet, and work with some of his trumpet students (he has an outstanding trumpet class!!) on improvisation. This time I combined a warm-up with learning the blues pentatonic and went directly into improvising, playing background and learning the guide tone lines of a blues. The time zipped by, and we started working on repertoire for a big trumpet concert night at a wonderful jazz club called Tube's.

Happy back to school day (week) everyone!

We had a concert last weekend with my band at the concert hall, where we once honored Willie’s legacy with a 3-hour memorial concert in 2019. For various reasons, it took 5 years to get my band on stage, realizing again how much fun and how important performing in front of an audience is. I asked to project a picture I took of Willie backstage many years ago to have him with us. It was just before he played a wonderful version of Body & Soul.
I am always thinking of Willie and his deep dedication to jazz education. Practicing, and figuring things out, means preparing for the day when we share our music with people. All this starts now! A new episode, a new school year with rehearsals and lectures which are preparing for events that eventually happen later or at the end of the year. Get on it on the first day with full dedication and the fun doubles on stage. Don't procrastinate and push things to the last minute. That was also Willie's goal I would like to pass on to you today.
Remember, all the Beginner's (12), intermediate (12) and Advanced (6) corners on our website end with tunes to play in front of an audience.
Off to a great start!

So much fun! Julian brought some amazing young talent out to Orcas Island to get his band introduced to the Jazz Everyone curriculum.
We had about 2 hours to learn about what the 4 notes (Pentatonic Pairs) can get started.
After introducing Willie, we started with the Advanced corner, playing “On the Road again” and followed the lessons preparing for the chart. (remember, you can print out the charts and play on the band stand)
Player's Corner > in-the-shed-with-uncle-Willie> immersion-zone > level-1-extended-dominants and looked into Making Music > Tunes to know and blow level 1 > Ladybird.
Time just zipped by ;-)
Thanks so much to Kaden, Miles, Penelope, and Elliot for being eager to learn and Julian for bringing this band out. If you don't know Julian, please check him out, fantastic drummer and educator. www.julianmacdonough.com
And thanks to Darren Dix for allowing us to use his band room!
