The CSS Middle and Upper School Band Spring Concert on April 14 ended in the most unexpected and beautiful way. After the final notes faded, our six seniors took the microphone — not with instruments, but with words — to honor Band Director Brent Moorhead.

One by one, they shared what he has meant to them. Senior Morgan H., a CSS Lifer, captured it perfectly: "You are the light that only brightens and never dims, no matter the circumstance."

The room laughed, cried, and cheered. Mr. Mo had no idea it was coming. After more than two decades of pouring himself into this community, the CSS community poured it right back. 🎶❤️

Students in the Ecology and Conflict in Yellowstone Experience-Centered Seminar are exploring Yellowstone National Park's ecosystems as a living classroom.

They have practiced real wildlife research techniques, including bison age and s*x identification and radio telemetry tracking. After locating several herds, students identified a target American bison and successfully collected a stool sample for research, which has now been delivered for laboratory analysis.

The three-week immersive ECS program, held each March in Upper School, brings learning to life through hands-on, interdisciplinary experiences. This year’s ECS topics also include:

🎓 From Kindergarten to College: A CSS Success Story

Senior Coltin B. ’26, a student at The Colorado Springs School since Kindergarten, has earned more than $1 million in scholarship offers, a rare and remarkable achievement among high school seniors.

Coltin’s journey reflects the power of a CSS education: meaningful mentorship, transformative experiential learning, and a community committed to educating the whole student.

Our latest feature highlights his path, including the guidance of Director of College Counseling Erik Playe and the lasting relationships that helped build his confidence and character.

“CSS has provided me with everything I could have asked for when it comes to academic rigor and experiences outside of the classroom,” Coltin shared. “It has grown me into the person I am.”
