⚡️From DCC Student to DCC Teacher!⚡️

Talk about a full-circle moment!

Emma Pastorello (Lindsay) is a proud Discovery Canyon graduate who went K–12 at DCC, and now, she gets to call some of her former K–5 teachers her teammates!

The people who taught Emma to read, encouraged her, cheered her on, and helped shape who she is today are now right beside her, sharing the same team and the same passion. What a special reminder of the lasting impact our teachers have on their students, and how the DCC family truly stays connected long after graduation.

Welcome back to DCC, Emma!

Next, let's give a warm ⚡Thunder welcome to our new Spanish teacher!

My name is AliciaRose Martinez, and I'm so excited to be joining DCC Elementary as the new Spanish teacher!

I've spent the last 15+ years working in education in a variety of roles. No matter where I've worked, my favorite part has always been building relationships with students and helping them discover that learning another language can be fun, messy, and full of adventure.

Outside of school, I'm usually hanging out with my son, searching thrift stores for vintage treasures, starting a new craft project, jamming or canning local fruits and veggies, and playing mariachi music. I also love traveling whenever I can, and learning bits and pieces of other languages just for fun.

I'm looking forward to laughing and learning with your children this year. I can't wait to meet everyone and begin this adventure together.
¡Nos vemos pronto!

⏰You can meet Mrs. Martinez at our Back to School night on Thursday, August 13th from 3:30pm to 5:00pm.

Welcome back to fourth grade, this time with a teacher’s badge and permission to use the copy machine! We’re so excited to have another DCC graduate return to lead a classroom of their own. Talk about the ultimate promotion!

My name is Emma Pastorello (Formerly Lindsey) 👰. I am so excited to get to teach 4th grade at the best school ever! I graduated as a DCC graduate in 2022 after attending since Kindergarten. I went on to attend Oklahoma State University (Go Pokes) where I studied Elementary Education and ran Cross Country and Track. I just got married in June to my amazing husband Mason, who is also a DCC K-12 graduate. We are huge Discovery Canyon fans, and are very excited to dive back into the community that raised us.

When I am not in the classroom I love to explore new hobbies, read a good book, watch a good tv show, and eat at new resturaunts. I am so excited to get to this year started and meet everyone!

⏰Meet Mrs. Pastorello on Thursday, August 13th from 3:30pm - 5:00pm at our Open House.

Kelly Plass will be joining DCC as a Special Education Resource Teacher this fall. Let's give her a big ⚡Thunder welcome!

I'm so excited to join the DCC team and get to know my new students, families, and team members!

My family retired here in Colorado after 24 years of military life. I’m a proud mom of three (a high school senior, a freshman, and a 5th grader). We love spending our free time traveling and going on new adventures.

Before teaching Special Education here in Colorado for the past two years, I taught in Florida and California. I'm looking forward to this school year and grateful to be part of the DCC team.

⏰Come and meet Mrs. Plass at our Open House on Thursday, August 13th from 3:30 - 5:00pm.

Let's welcome our new Special Education Paraprofessional, Andrea Reynolds back to Colorado. We are happy she will be joining us at DCC this fall!

Hi, I am Andrea Reynolds.
I have been a para for 3 years now. I started as a preschool para in D49 and moved to D20 (Explorer SPED department). My husband and I both grew up in the Springs and are grateful for being back among friends and family after 13 years on the east coast. We have 3 awesome kids: Triston, Tanner and Kayliegh. During my free time you can find me: reading, hiking, playing board games, or watching soccer. I am excited to join DCCES and see what this year will bring.

Let's give a big ⚡Thunder welcome to our new preschool teacher, Katie Shapiro!

My name is Katie Shapiro, and I am the preschool teacher this year! I am looking forward to meeting everyone and starting my journey at DCC! This will be my 9th year teaching, the previous 8 of which were in Texas. I have covered a lot of the special education world from behavior to preschool to resource. I took a few years off to be a stay-at-home mom to my two girls, and I am so ready to be back! In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, and baking. I am so excited for this year to get started!

If you have a preschooler attending DCC this fall, you can meet Mrs. Shapiro at our Open House on Thursday, August 13th from 3:30pm to 5:00pm.

WE DID IT! 🎉

Our amazing elementary school community crushed our Fun Run donation goal, which meant the principals had to pay up… with a SLIME shower AND a goat kiss!

Thank you to every family, student, teacher, and supporter who donated, cheered, and helped make this such a fun and successful event. The memories (and the slime) will stick with us for a long time!

Thank you for all your hard work and support of our DCCES Thunder Fun Run! We’ve had a blast raising funds and helping our school. We were able to raise funds for curricular programs, technology/student devices, and staff professional learning!
