Welcome Back, Hornets! 🐝

The buses are rolling, the halls are buzzing, and Hanover School District 28 is officially back in session for the 2026–2027 school year!

Today is an especially exciting day — it's the first day of school and the grand opening of our brand-new elementary building. What a way to kick off the year! To our returning Hornets and every new face joining our district, welcome. We're so glad you're here.

A few things to look forward to this week:

- Tuesday, Aug 18 – First day of school (K–12) & Elementary Grand Opening Ceremony
- Wednesday, Aug 19 – Ice Cream Social at HES and JSHS, 4:00–6:00 PM. All families are welcome!
- Wednesday, Aug 19 – Board of Education Meeting, 6:30 PM
- Friday, Aug 21 – JSHS Picture Day

Whether this is your first year as a Hornet or you've been with us since preschool, we can't wait to see what you'll learn, build, and achieve this year. Here's to a great year of owning your education!

Tuesday, August 18th: Open and Operational

Good evening.

Water service will be restored and operational at the Jr/Sr High School by 7:00 AM tomorrow, Tuesday, August 18th. All buildings will be open for normal operations.

Buses will run on their regular schedules, with students picked up at their designated times.

As a reminder, all BOCES and college students will continue to be transported according to our normal schedule. Please direct any questions to the school office.

We are pleased to begin the school year tomorrow with both schools opening. Hanover Elementary School will mark the occasion with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony in the morning, and we look forward to welcoming students to both buildings.

We wish everyone a great start to the year, and thank you for your continued patience and understanding.

Good evening,

As you know, our well system is down at the Junior/Senior High School. Our hope was that we could be operational by morning, but that will not happen. Subsequently, the Junior/Senior High School and administration building is closed tomorrow, Friday, August 14, 2026. The first day of class will occur next Tuesday, August 18, 2026.

A few additional notes:

- No sports activities on Friday, August 14, 2026 — campus is closed.
- BOCES students will begin as usual tomorrow; those bus routes will run as usual.
- College students will begin on Monday, August 17, 2026.

Please find further information in our First Five-Minute Friday update, coming out by end of day tomorrow.
