Shane focuses on the improvisational, creative, and analytical sides of the drumset. He has 33 years on the instrument and 29 years of professional performance experience. Mentored by legendary New Orleans drummer Johnny Vidacovich, he absorbed much of the New Orleans sound, including its deep groove tradition and Second Line feel.
"I believe in teaching through songs—deconstructing parts and developing technique in support of the music, the true reason we play." He emphasizes improvisation, sound exploration, and creativity as essential to the musical experience, and shows students how being both analytical and creative on the drums sparks curiosity and long-lasting interest.
Throughout his professional career, Shane has taught students of all ages and skill levels, including mentoring his sons. His performance and teaching experience spans funk, rock, jazz, blues, reggae, bluegrass, and Second Line traditions. He has played in numerous bands and performed at many venues and festivals including Bear Creek Music Festival, Rambler's Retreat, and Voodoo Fest.
