Do you learn, support and build as a couple?

4 years ago I thought Nathan and I would never see eye to eye and it was time to go our separate ways.

We were still in love, our s*x was still incredible, we still laughed and had fun together, so when I told him that I was thinking about separating- it hit him from the left field. HARD.

I had been in this incredible journey of healing, self growth, spirituality, and felt unstoppable in any venture. My growth created a huge disconnect between Nathan and I. Honestly, the only common ground we were finding was when we were drinking together and living fully present.

Luckily, a huge part of my growth path involves being a part of Tony Robbins Platinum Partnership and every other year one of his events is a relationship trip. Thank goodness my plat year rolled into this event. Nathan and I flew down and spent 3 weeks in Hawaii- two of which were at this beautiful event.

Every morning we’d wake up in the breathtaking Ritz Carlton in Maui, we’d go our separate ways to harness our masculine and feminine energy, then we would finish the day off in the wee hours of the morning listening to Tony talk. One of his days talked about how the worst thing a woman can do is threaten to abandon her man in his time of need.

That sentence hit me so hard and all these emotions came flooding back. My impatience for Nathan’s learning curve wasn’t up to par, so I was threatening to leave with the hope that he would get his sh*t together. My push turned to resentment- of course he was completely turned off by any sort of growth- it was threatening to change his life AND take his wife away.

The answer was I just needed to be still and love him.

I didn’t need to threaten. I didn’t need to run. I didn’t need to compare. I just needed to unconditionally love him like I told him I would in our wedding vows.

There are so many times that we can get caught up in the moment and our self justice and turn a blind eye to love, acceptance, and gratitude. Where have you seen this take place in your relationship? When have you said OR thought... I love him/her so much, BUT...

I hope you take this story as a reminder that we love our partners. We don’t need to change a single thing about them in this moment. Remember to stay present and love them unconditionally. ❤️❤️❤️
