Coaching the coaches! I got to spend time last week with the Manitou, Palmer, & Coronado MTB Team coaches, working on their own skills and how to coach their racers. We worked on tight switchbacks, flowing corners, and rocky descents.⁠

They volunteer their time to build the team we all wish we had as teenagers. Hopefully I can join their ranks in a few years when my son is old enough to be on the team!

Thankfully I'm better at coaching than I am at doing my own social media 🫠

But 2026 lessons are in full swing. I'm booking private and semi-private lessons, and the calendar is already full for April and May. Reach out if you'd like to get more confident on your bike and we'll plan a lesson tailored to you.

Photo from last fall when I had my most unique lesson to date with Charla who was gifted the lesson as a surprise from her partner. She had no idea what she was getting into when she got to the trail, but we had a fantastic time together!

I wrapped up a summer of private lessons with Morgan this week! We first met back in April, when she organized a semi-private lesson with a group of friends, and since then we’ve been working together with regular 1:1 lessons to level up her riding.

We’ve logged 11 hours on the trails, focusing on body positioning, building confidence and tackling new features. We also traded fueling strategies, talked gear and had a lot of fun. Morgan - thanks for a great summer!

Private lessons are an investment, but for what it’s worth, the 11 hours of mostly 1:1 instruction cost less than traveling to a 2-day clinic with group instruction. Plus you get time to absorb and practice what you learn in-between lessons.

I love this photo for 3 reasons.

1st, look at Sarah’s smile. She had just ridden down an 18-inch feature for the first time and handled it like a pro.

2nd, I’m already cheering for her. Watching people do what seemed impossible moments before is the best part of coaching.

3rd, she’s riding my old Yeti Beti SB100. I won that bike at the Beti Bike Bash in 2018 and sold it to her last year. Since then, she has picked up mountain biking so quickly. That bike brought me a lot of happiness, and I’m so glad it’s in good hands now.�
We had a fantastic semi-private lesson last weekend with a great group of friends. These sessions are such a fun way to learn because you’re already comfortable with each other, it’s easier to stay relaxed, ask questions, and cheer each other on. Plus, you leave with shared skills and accountability partners to keep progressing together.

A $300, three-hour private lesson is actually cheaper than an urgent care visit after a crash, or missing out on an epic ride with friends because you’re not feeling confident on the trail.⁠ I also offer BIG discounts for recurring private lessons. What could you accomplish in one year? For Kristen, a year of committing to improving her mountain bike skills has resulted in more confidence and more fun on the bike. It’s also been a year of riding without injuries, and a sense of accomplishment in completing rides and trails she never imagined riding before this year. In the past year, we’ve spent more than 20 hours working together through private lessons, and along the way we’ve become good friends too!

Mini-Clinics – what are they, and why do I offer them? These bite-sized mountain bike lessons can transform your riding in a BIG way. Each 2.5-hour clinic is limited to five students and focuses on specific skills like corners, rocks, switchbacks, and fundamentals.

I have only one more Saturday mini-clinic scheduled for this year on July 13th. Weekend dates are limited because the trails are more crowded, and TBH my calendar is quickly filling with weekend races and adventures.

Hi y'all! Time for a reintroduction. I'm Katie, your mountain bike skills coach in Colorado Springs.

My goal is simple: to help you become a more confident mountain biker by refining your skills through personalized lessons and small group clinics. Watching riders progress safely and find more JOY in biking is the best.

I’ve been mountain biking for 16 years and coaching for nine - but I still remember how nervous I was on the trails before I understood the skills to progress in this sport. Taking a mountain bike lesson made a world of difference for me because I was able to replace fear with a plan for each obstacle I encountered.

When I'm not coaching, you'll find me training for endurance XC races, or lending a hand to the biking community through the Women's Mountain Biking Association of Colorado Springs - WMBA and Kids on Bikes.

Beyond biking, I'm a communications consultant, wife, mom and big fan of summer and sourdough bread.
