Tuesday tip: multimodal learning is the most effective learning!

Take a moment to think about the last time you learned a new skill. How did you interact with the learning? Did you take notes? Did you speak with others as they learned? Did you talk out each step to the skill or finished product?

The same applies to children who are learning to read. The more ways their brain is connecting with the letters and sounds themselves, the deeper the learning will be. In lessons with Blast Reading, students speak, write, touch and manipulate letters and sound pictures. This is all based on how our brain works the best.

If you are working with your child on reading, have them put their finger on the letters or the words as they are reading. Set up a sensory station with whipped cream or sand to draw out letters and spell words. Make large letters and have them stomp on the letters or words as they are blending them together. Reading can be so much fun!

Hi all! Just a quick introduction for you!

Tuesday tip: learning how to read is actually quite difficult.

Maybe you were like me, and reading came easy to you, but for a lot of students, the process of recognizing letters, connecting them to sounds, and blending them together to form words is VERY HARD. Even just reading that sentence again and understanding the full process of reading, hopefully gives you pause.

If your kiddo is struggling to learn to read, don’t despair. And here’s my tip for you today: be honest with them about it. If they avoid reading or anything having to do with books, get frustrated along with them. Let them know that you’re there with them in the difficulty. Share your own frustrations with reading and don’t diminish their hard work.
