Dokkodo, or the “path of aloneness” is not an easy path, but in order to appreciate relationships and friendships, you must first understand and be ok with aloneness. The leopard teaches us that self-reliance is the first step into true community and that if we don’t first grow in independence, we can’t have the joys of intra-dependency. In order to get great joy in your life, you must first sacrifice happiness and comfort. Accept difficulty and pain as a part of life. Freedom is scary and dangerous, but it also has the potential for the best life lived, if you’re willing to take the chance on it and live with the responsibilities and consequences of your actions.







&Tactics

The leopard is free to move throughout its territory unhindered. Nothing holds the leopard back from freedom and nothing hinders it from doing what it wants. The leopard has freedom because it is self-reliant and self-sufficient. Therefore, the leopard can choose its own destiny because it is not controlled by fear or lack of skill. Like the leopard, we must cut the strings of anything that can sway or manipulate us. Figure out what controls you, how it controls you, why it controls you, and create an action plan for freedom. Ultimately, you must put in the hard work to cut those strings and change your thoughts, actions, and ways.






-Reliance

The leopard teaches us that survival is no one else’s responsibility except its own. It doesn’t wait for the tiger or bear to do its hunting for it, or to protect its territory. It understands that if it doesn’t work, it doesn’t eat. The leopard knows that its safety is only in its own hands, and therefore makes sure it is skilled enough to handle it. Like the leopard, you are in charge of your life, which puts the power in your hands. If you want to have a successful and fulfilled life, you are ultimately in charge of that. Growth requires learning from mistakes and failures, as much as not allowing excuses to stunt our progress.

The Leopard is a cunning and tactical animal, who prefers to live alone up in tree tops away from other predators. Nothing can enslave the leopard because it has freed itself from constraints. The leopard is dangerous because it is a slave to nothing and is self-reliant. The leopard teaches us to take personal responsibility, cut the puppet master’s strings, and do the hard work of growth.
