💙👏 A Night of Recognition & Appreciation 👏💙

Last night’s first School Board meeting of the school year was filled with celebration as we recognized some of the incredible people who make CHPS such a special place!

We celebrated our 2025–2026 Teachers and Support Staff Members of the Year and recognized our outstanding custodial and maintenance teams for the tremendous work they put in this summer to prepare, beautify, and ready our schools for a successful new year.

We are grateful for the dedication, pride, and care these individuals bring to CHPS each day. Congratulations, and thank you for all you do! 🏫✨

Colonial Heights Public Schools kicked off the new school year with our first-ever CHARGE: Colonial Heights Achieving Readiness, Growth, and Excellence event!

All CHPS employees came together for a day filled with learning, collaboration, connection, and plenty of Colonial pride. From engaging professional learning sessions led by our own talented staff and community partners to opportunities to connect, recharge, and celebrate together, CHARGE showcased the incredible knowledge, expertise, and energy that already exist throughout our division.

A huge THANK YOU to our presenters, planning committee, community partners, sponsors, and every CHPS employee who brought their enthusiasm and made our inaugural CHARGE event such a success! 💙❤️

📅 Orientations & Open Houses are TOMORROW, August 20!
🍎 The first day of school is Monday, August 24!
📵 New this year: Cell phones & personal communication devices are OFF & AWAY during the school day.
🚌 2026–2027 bus routes are posted!

Please check your email today for our Back-to-School information sheet with additional details about each of these reminders. We want every family to have the information they need for a smooth start to the new school year.

🍎💙 Welcome to CHPS! 💙🍎

This week, we were thrilled to welcome our newest teachers and staff members to the CHPS family!

Throughout New Staff Orientation, our newest Colonials spent time learning about CHPS, engaging in professional learning and curriculum planning, connecting with mentors and colleagues, exploring instructional resources and technology, and preparing their classrooms for the year ahead.

We are excited to have these talented educators joining our team and can’t wait to see the difference they make for our students. Please join us in giving them a warm CHPS welcome! 👋📚

🚔 Scheduled Training Notice

The Colonial Heights Police Department will conduct scheduled training at North Elementary tomorrow from 9:00 AM–3:00 PM.

You may notice an increased law enforcement presence at the school during this time. Please be assured that this is a planned training exercise and not an emergency.

Back-to-school events are just around the corner! Join us on Thursday, August 20 for orientations and open houses across CHPS as we get ready for an amazing school year.

What's the difference?
🎓 Orientation begins at a specific time and includes important information for students and families before visiting classrooms.

🏫 Open House is a drop-in event—come anytime during the scheduled hours to meet teachers, visit classrooms, and get ready for the first day of school!

💙📚 Preparing for a Great Year Ahead 📚💙

Over the past two days, CHPS leaders came together for our annual Leadership Retreat to prepare for the 2026–2027 school year.

Through collaboration, planning, professional learning, and a little fun along the way, we spent time strengthening our leadership, building relationships, and preparing to support our students, staff, and families in the year ahead.

We are excited for all that's to come and look forward to welcoming everyone back to CHPS soon! 💙✨

🎒🚌 Back-to-School Backpack Giveaway! 🚌🎒

Kick off Virginia's Tax-Free Weekend with a free backpack giveaway at Southpark Mall!

📅 Friday, August 7
🕑 2:00–4:00 PM (or while supplies last)
📍 In front of the Old Macy's

The first 166 students (limit one backpack per child) will receive:
🎒 A backpack filled with school supplies
🍱 An insulated lunch box
✏️ A pencil/supply pouch

Families can also enjoy a visit from the Chick-fil-A Cow and learn more about Colonial Heights' upcoming 100th Anniversary celebration.

🤩🚌 Register for Bus Transportation for the 2026-27 School Year! 🤩🚌

As we prepare for another successful school year, Colonial Heights City Public Schools encourages all families who plan to use district transportation to complete the CHPS Transportation Form no later than August 7, 2026. The Transportation Form is located in your PowerSchool parent portal.

By registering now, you can help us:
-Prepare and post efficient bus routes
-Reduce delays at the start of the school year
-Ensure accurate student transportation information
-Provide the safest and most reliable service possible
