On November 3, 2026, Minnesota voters will see a proposed constitutional amendment related to the Permanent School Fund, a fund established at statehood to provide ongoing support for Minnesota public education. The proposed amendment would change how money from the fund is distributed to school districts.
Here are a few key things we want our Cologne Academy families to know:
All Minnesota school districts would receive funding through the Permanent School Fund, including charter schools such as Cologne Academy.
The ballot proposal does not raise individual income or property taxes. The question concerns how existing Permanent School Fund resources are distributed.
Don’t overlook this question on your ballot. Under Minnesota’s rules for constitutional amendments, an amendment must receive approval from a majority of everyone voting in the election—not simply a majority of those who answer the question. As a result, leaving the question blank has the same practical effect as voting “No.”
If approved, the change would take effect July 1, 2027.
We encourage our families to become familiar with the question before Election Day. The graphic shows the official ballot language you will see when you vote.
