🍴 Small Business PSA: Why We Take Food Safety Seriously 🍴
One of the most common things we hear from customers is:
"I trust Farm Hippie."
And honestly? That's something we never take lightly.
When you're shopping local, you're often buying food from neighbors, family farms, home bakers, ranchers, gardeners, and small producers. That's one of the things that makes local food so special.
It's also why we work hard to make sure products are properly labeled, stored correctly, rotated regularly, and handled according to the guidelines that apply to them.
Sometimes that means having difficult conversations.
Sometimes that means saying no.
Sometimes that means holding vendors accountable to standards they may not fully understand or appreciate in the moment.
But at the end of the day, our responsibility is to the customer placing trust in us every time they walk through our doors.
Supporting local doesn't mean lowering standards.
In fact, we believe it's the opposite.
Our farmers, bakers, ranchers, growers, and makers work incredibly hard to produce quality products, and they deserve to be represented in an environment that values both local food and food safety.
The goal has never been to make things difficult.
The goal has always been simple:
Keep local food local.
Keep local food available.
Keep local food safe.
💚

Small Business PSA: Yes, We’re Human
(A reshare from 2025)
Recently, we shared what we thought was a lighthearted meme—a little levity about a heavy topic, with a reminder of the joy in shopping local.
It wasn’t political. (At least, we didn’t think so. But once we realized it offended some, we quickly and publicly apologized.)
To us, it was personal. Supporting local is something we believe in with our whole hearts. We thought others would too.
And most of you did—hundreds responded with kindness, understanding, and shared giggles.
But a louder-than-expected wave didn’t.
We received comments. DMs. Even a few unfollows.
One in particular stuck with us:
“Just stick to slinging fried pies.”
A message small business owners know all too well:
You don’t get to be a person anymore.
You’re expected to smile and serve.
Stay silent. Say nothing that might shake someone’s comfort.
Make the sale—but don’t make a statement.
But here’s what we need you to know:
Business owners are real people. We are human beings.
We, the owners, are Christians who believe in grace, growth, and love—even if we don’t quote scripture here.
Not that this should matter.
We, our friends, and our family are red, white, blue (and yes, probably somewhere in between too).
Straight, q***r, loud, quiet, disabled, blended, neurodivergent, minority, and beautifully made.
Not that this should matter.
And we believe everyone deserves respect and belonging, just like the people we love.
So why share this today?
Because we almost didn’t.
We almost let that comment—and the fear behind it—keep us from making a post today.
We almost stayed silent on Juneteenth, a day that acknowledges freedom and pain and history.
We almost let the little anonymous “laugh” reactions keep us from mentioning that we see, hear, and feel the significance of this day.
June also happens to be Pride Month, and again—that same little fear creeps up for business owners who stand behind the message that everyone deserves to be loved and treated fairly.
(And honestly—why is this even still a question?)
We believe in acknowledging the past and learning from it.
We believe in dignity.
We believe in visibility.
We believe that literally everyone deserves a voice, a place, and the freedom to live authentically.
As small business owners and community leaders, it’s not just okay to say that—it’s right to say that.
We’re not here to appease those who try to dampen voices or weaponize kindness.
We’re here to make space for stories, stand beside our neighbors, and reflect the real, diverse, incredible community that surrounds us.
So no—we’re not just slinging fried pies.
Our humanness is what makes Farm Hippie what it is.
And we’re proud to show up with open hearts and open minds.
June reminds us how far we’ve come—and how far we still have to go.
Our job, as neighbors and community builders, is to hold space for that growth and say clearly and loudly:
You belong here.
And besides—there’s always someone ready to share a fried pie and vote for kindness at Farm Hippie. 😉
Happy Juneteenth.
Happy Pride Month.
Happy all the things.
May we keep showing up for one another in every season.

🍅 BUY THE BASKET 🍅
A friendly reminder from your Farm Hippie team:
When shopping our produce section, please purchase produce by the basket as displayed.
Unlike a traditional grocery store, our produce comes from multiple local growers, and each basket represents a specific producer's inventory and sales. When customers mix, match, swap, or build their own baskets from multiple vendors, it becomes very difficult to accurately track sales and ensure the correct farmer is credited.
We know it's tempting to grab "just one from this basket" and "one from that basket," but doing so can unintentionally impact the local growers who worked hard to bring those beautiful tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, and other fresh produce to market.
So when you find a basket you love...
🍅 Buy the basket.
🌽 Support the farmer.
💚 Keep local agriculture thriving.
Thank you for helping us support our growers and keep things fair for everyone involved!

📚✨ New Vendor Spotlight: Hearth and Hands ✨📚
Please help us welcome Kaya Jeffery of Hearth and Hands to Farm Hippie Bartlesville!
Kaya is a wife, mother of two little girls, gardener, chicken keeper, book lover, and entrepreneur with a passion for simple living and meaningful connections. From her small-town home, she and her family grow heirloom produce, care for their flock, and operate a farm stand featuring holistic products and sourdough goodies. They're currently taking the next exciting step in their journey by transforming that farm stand dream into a Main Street storefront in Sedan, Kansas.
Books have always held a special place in Kaya's heart. In fact, her love of reading recently inspired her to start a town-wide book exchange, which eventually led to the creation of her beautifully curated Blind Date With A Book bundles.
Each bundle is thoughtfully selected and wrapped, making every purchase a surprise waiting to be discovered. Kaya keeps a close eye on current book trends, popular authors, beloved classics, and reader favorites to create an experience that's both fun and personal. No two bundles are exactly alike, and every one is designed to bring a little joy, curiosity, and connection to fellow book lovers.
After spending several years managing a coffee shop and café, Kaya felt called to pursue her own entrepreneurial dreams, combining her love of books with her creative spirit. The result is a unique product that invites readers to step outside their comfort zones and discover their next favorite story.
If you're a reader, a gift-giver, or simply someone who loves surprises, be sure to stop by Farm Hippie Bartlesville and check out Hearth and Hands.
And fair warning: once you buy one Blind Date With A Book, it's awfully hard not to come back for another. 📚💚
Welcome to the Farm Hippie family, Kaya!
