We’re creating readers (and thinkers), not robots….
Somewhere along the way, as a culture, our idea of learning has become skewed.
The expectation that kids must sit quietly at a desk for hours each day, staring at a screen in order to “learn” is not only detrimental to their education, but also their mental health.
Every single child WANTS to do well. They WANT to be successful, but when their environment is not set up to support them, they constantly feel like there’s something wrong with them. And that’s the furthest thing from the truth.

The Learning Lounge,LLC. What families are saying…. We had an absolutely amazing experience here. They made sure to make my child feel welcome, special, and understood. She left so incredibly happy and confident. Very knowledgeable about Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, and Dyscalculia. I highly, highly recommend. They care and want...
Sometimes they panic at the sight of a reading task.
Avoidance, shutdown, “I can’t.”
So we build a visual: Mastery Mountain.🏔️
At the bottom…we’re hopeful, excited, ready to learn.
Halfway up….we’re tired, frustrated, doubting if we can keep going.
That middle part though??
That’s where most kids decide the yucky feelings mean they should stop 🛑
I let them know, It’s just part of the climb!
I teach them to expect it.
To name it.
To keep going moving through it.
And just as important, I give space for it….
Space to feel it.
Space to express it.
Space to make sense of it without rushing past it or shoving it down.
He drew himself at the top. 🏔️
And then? He scribbled out all the frustration it took to get there—every hard moment, every “this is too much,” every doubt.
Not erased, but processed and transformed.
That space is where the shift happens.
Where anxiety loosens its grip.
Where avoidance is replaced with action.
👏🏻Where a child learns: “I can feel this… and still do hard things.”
That belief doesn’t just help with reading.
It changes how they approach everything.
Learning looks different here. 🫶 And I LOVE it!

Why are we not talking about this? 🤔
Is it just me or does it feel like these topics just get brushed under the rug?
Why are we piling more work onto teachers without equipping them with the resources to support these kids in the ways they truly need?
Please, make it make sense!! I'm genuinely at a loss.
Teachers?...... I want to hear from you.
Admin?...... Let's chat.
Parents?....Message me.
I have wondered if my observations are completely off-base. I mean, they must be, right?
Surely, I MUST be missing something.
Yet the more questions I ask, the more conversations I have, the more I see in my practice, I am learning that maybe I'm not missing as much as I wish I were.
Enlighten me, friends.... Please, someone show me how wrong I am.
