I remember this day from over the summer-Some days are just extra magical, and this was definitely one of them. Big milestones achieved & lots of laughs! Bri is the best of the best and this little guy is still bringing the FUN every time he walks through the door! So much gratitude for these two and for ALL of our precious kiddos. 💟

One thing I love most about our little Learning Lounge world is the opportunity to give kids the space to get comfortable while doing something that feels really hard.

For a child who spends so much energy trying to keep up, these little moments are golden. 💫

My hope is that every child leaves with more than just reading skills. I want them to know, when they are here, they don't have to hold themselves together perfectly to be accepted. Getting “in trouble”? Nope, not needed here.

I want them to know "I can come as I am. I can struggle, and I know I will be met with patience, kindness, and genuine belief in what I can achieve.”

Fridays are for the middle schoolers! We kicked off the semester with a little sentence building, executive function & spelling hacks, and even some moonwalking to MJ!

Having high expectations doesn't mean applying more pressure or aiming for perfection.

It means remaining in that sweet spot between what a child can do independently and what they can accomplish with the right support.

They need the adults in their lives to believe in them, so they can learn to believe in themselves.

For many children, negative beliefs about their abilities can become more limiting than their original challenges or any diagnosis.

Sometimes, it’s not about the child needing to 'listen harder' or 'pay closer attention'.

Following multi-step directions, remembering what was just said, and processing information in the right order can be genuinely difficult for some kids.

We recently had one of our Learning Lounge families be approved for a scholarship through the International Dyslexia Association (IDA), and we want to make sure other parents know about this opportunity too!

The IDA offers scholarships that can help individuals with dyslexia access educational therapy and support.

As we head back to school and families are thinking about what their children may need for a successful year, this could be a wonderful resource to explore.

The next application deadline is October 31st.

Sometimes it’s hard to see in our kids, because as adults, urgency, chaos and pressure to perform just feel normal.

Our survival brain (fight/flight) has become the baseline.

Relax your jaw. Soften your shoulders. 3 deep breaths in through your nose. Hold it.
Long exhale. Now, exhale some more.

It’s okay for you to slow your pace. You don’t have to take on the urgency/pressure that’s surrounding you. 🩷

Yes, this is true.

AND….

Telling a 7 year old that ‘a’ represents
/a/ is just as confusing as saying that ‘a’ makes the /a/ sound.

➡️How do we write the sound /a/??”⬅️

I must say it at least 100 times a day!

This wording helps reinforce to students that we spell SOUNDS, not words.

Words are confusing and they can feel hard!

Let’s break it down as simply as possible so kids know what exactly it is they are looking at/writing when they are reading/spelling.
