The work is sewing. The lesson is so much bigger.

Around her, the classroom is alive with movement and conversation. But she is completely absorbed—guiding the needle, pulling the thread, and staying with her work.

Today, she is learning to sew. She is also building concentration, persistence, independence, logical sequence of thought, and the confidence that comes from mastering something through her own effort.

Long after the needle and thread are put away, those abilities will remain.

This is a beautiful glimpse into a typical morning work period in our Toddler classrooms: children moving independently through their environment, choosing work that sparks their curiosity, engaging deeply with the materials, and learning through exploration and repetition.

No rush. No need to entertain. Just capable little humans, busy becoming themselves.

What looks like a puzzle is actually a foundation for higher mathematics.

The Montessori Decanomial Square allows children to explore multiplication through color, shape, pattern, and relationships. As the pieces come together, the child is seeing mathematical ideas made concrete—including multiplication facts, equivalence, and the relationship between numbers.

She doesn’t need to begin with an abstract equation on a page. First, she can see it. Touch it. Build it. Understand it.

That’s one of the beautiful things about Montessori mathematics: abstract concepts begin with concrete experiences.

Yum! This toddler lunch was crafted in our classroom. The toddlers enjoy helping to make their own lunch every day. Bright colors, interesting textures and fun tastes all help expose them to new culinary adventures.
