Hike & Splash 🌱💦

We spent the morning immersed in the woods, navigating the trail, climbing over roots and rocks, and collecting little pieces of nature along the way.

Once we reached the creek, those treasures became sun prints, and watching the images slowly reveal themselves in the water felt a little like magic. ☀️

Then came plenty of creek exploration, searching, scooping, observing, and catching and releasing more crayfish than we could count. 🦞

From trail to creek, there was always something new to discover. 🌱

Hiking is more than a walk in the woods. 🌿

It gives kids real problems to solve, choices to make, and opportunities to trust their bodies as they navigate changing terrain.

There’s space to move, pause, notice, explore, and discover what they’re capable of along the way.

And that confidence can stay with them long after the trail ends.

This is why hiking is such a meaningful part of Rooted Explorers and our outdoor therapy sessions. The trail gives kids real opportunities to move, problem solve, build confidence, and discover what they’re capable of. 🌱

I scream, you scream, we all scream for… mud ice cream! 🍦🤎

Little explorers scooped mud from the creek, squeezed “chocolate syrup,” then topped their mud ice cream with sandy sprinkles, shells, rocks, and dried flowers they discovered along the way.

Open-ended sensory play like this encourages creativity, imagination, fine motor development, and social interaction while giving children the freedom to create, explore, and learn through play.

🦖 Dinosaur Discovery 🌱

We stomped through the forest, rescued frozen dinosaurs from ice, uncovered fossils, and explored the creek like true paleontologists.

Along the way, children strengthened fine motor skills as they chipped away ice, excavated fossils, and manipulated natural materials. Every activity encouraged movement, sensory exploration, problem solving, creativity, and confidence through outdoor adventure.

Childhood is meant to be messy, curious, and full of adventure.
