Ursinus College is proud to announce the appointment of Kelly Sorensen, Ph.D., to the role of provost and vice president of academic affairs.
Sorensen has served as interim provost since October 2025 and has been a member of the Ursinus faculty since 2004, when he joined as an assistant professor of philosophy. Over the past 20 years, he's helped build out the college's academic programming, most recently helping spearhead APEX at Ursinus. During his time as interim provost, Sorensen helped roll out more than 10 new and reimagined majors and launched the college's first-ever Experiential Learning Week.

Two Ursinus College students presented original research at the Society for Music Perception and Cognition (SMPC) national conference this July 🎶
Nico Yanzaguano '26 presented "Sounds Good Feels Good: Measuring Music and Emotion Perception in College Students," an eye-tracking and neuroimaging study on how cymbal timbre shapes listeners' emotional responses, developed with faculty mentors Rosa Abrahams, Joel Bish and Leslie New.
Sophia Kumar '26 presented research examining whether expressive writing can reduce post-performance rumination in musicians experiencing performance anxiety.
Yanzaguano was also selected for SMPC's pre-conference workshop on music cognition methodologies — the only undergraduate accepted among scholars at every career stage, reflecting Ursinus's emphasis on undergraduate research through its APEX program.
