Big sophomore years ahead for Everett at Loyola Men's Basketball and Jacob Nguyen at Thomas Jefferson University Men’s Basketball 🏀

Drill: 1 on 1 with constraints

Rules:

1. Only score off bully drives or step backs, or keep your dribble alive off the step back
2. Stay within a foot of the paint

Focus:

1. Connect with your off arm. Get your arm and shoulder out in front of you and seek contact at the defender’s belly button with your wrist and forearm. This lets you control the defender, stay on a straight line drive, and protect the ball

Drill: Float and step back to maintain dribble

Focus:
1) Quick feet as we float with downhill shoulder posture
2) Understand dribble timing and counters ( Here we show two quick dribbles, a freeze dribble in the pocket and a between dribble after the initial step back)

Push Cross Drill:

Focus:
1) Sell opposite direction and punch your lead foot into the ground to change directions
2) Push the ball from behind one hip to across the other hip
3) The push cross is over the belly button area and keep it as close as you can to your body

Spin Finishing Drill

Rules:
You have 5 variations
1) Rim
2) Right wide
3) Right high
4) Left wide
5) Left high

Focus:
1) Proprioception to adjust in the air and finish
2) Having the ability to explode to the rim, but touch to use the backboard if need be

Drill: 1 on 1 half spin from the nail

Rules:
1) You can go on 1-3 dribbles

Focus:
1) Playing off spins and half spins
2) Ability to bully drive and pivot to score on balance
3) Connecting with off arm

Footwork Drill:

Focus:
1) Pushing the speed of your inside foot catch and release
2) When the ball hits your hands you should dip the ball and sync your hips simultaneously
3) Hold your follow through and balance in a phone booth

Seeking out connection early and being physical with bumps while defenders feet are moving!

The Foster brothers are as consistent as it gets when it comes to putting the work in. Big years ahead for Langston Foster and Wynnie

Every move in this workout comes with a quick description, but the edge is in the details. Take clip 1, splitting the ball screen:

1️⃣ Use your eyes, shoulders, posture, and pace to sell the opposite direction. Shoulder direction towards the opposite sideline and change speeds to make hedge man concerned he will get beat to the middle of the floor. “Eyes tell lies.”

2️⃣ Yo-Yo dribble: to get skinny through the gap, push the ball low (below your knees) and release it through the traffic. Then gather before the next line of defense steps up. This release allows you to act as a running back slicing through the small gap.

Great shooters pushing each other with a 2 ball shooting competition. Variations: 1) catch and shoot 2) raise and rip 3) raise-rip-shot fake-reload 4) compete with full speed footwork, quick release and live rebounding

Contested finishing drill. Focus: 1) Shielding off shot blocker with off arm 2) two handed pickups in traffic 3) Set up: behind the back sn**ch into a pocket dribble. Ball and foot hit at the same time. Understanding the different dribble timings allows you to control your pace.

Cross body two handed pickups. Focus: 1) Being able to meet the ball with two hands if defender tries to cut you off or go for a steal 2) Being on balance on two feet to avoid shot blocker by jumping to the opposite direction of your drive

Range form shooting: Start under the rim and work your way back to half court. Make three swishes then take a step back. Finish with 3 swishes in a row at the 3 point line and foul line.

Inside hand finishing. 1) Quick second jump to beat defender to the rim 2) Can be a great move to draw fouls with aggressive shot blockers

Shot fake turnaround: Focus: 1) playing off two feet on balance 2) selling shot fake by hiding the ball on our outside hip and timing the shot fake right as we land

Ball screen reject warmup: 1) selling the cross with eyes, shoulders and ball hidden in pocket 2) Tempo: Bounce spin-relax then quick cross. Can be a push cross or a low cross
