Still reminiscing on a weekend that meant so much to the Maroon Coats!
Celebrating honorary Maroon Coats Barbara and William “Bill” Huffman ’53 as recipients of the 2026 Sterling C. Evans Medal was a reminder of the lasting impact generosity and servant leadership can have on Texas A&M.
Their support for students, traditions and the people behind the scenes continues to shape experiences for generations of Aggies. We’re still feeling grateful to have witnessed such a special moment celebrating people we continue to learn from.

Some legacies are built over time through generosity, commitment and a belief in what Aggieland can be.
This weekend, Barbara and William “Bill” Huffman ’53 were recognized with the 2026 Sterling C. Evans Medal, the Texas A&M Foundation’s highest honor.
Their impact can be felt across campus, but it is especially meaningful within the Maroon Coats. As honorary members, Barbara and Bill have invested in the students behind the scenes who help bring so many moments to life.
They have supported programs, traditions and people, leaving a lasting mark on generations of Aggies.
Thank you, Barbara and Bill, for the way you continue to show up for the Maroon Coats and for Aggieland.

This Former’s Friday, we are honored to spotlight Sunjay Letchuman ‘22, a first-generation Aggie from Shreveport, Louisiana, and a member of Maroon Coats Class XIII.
During his time at Texas A&M, Sunjay studied Business Honors while also pursuing business of health care coursework, ultimately following his calling to medicine. While at A&M, he developed a strong interest in health policy, publishing health policy research and working in Congress three separate times. Next month, he will graduate from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City, and this June, he will begin his anesthesiology residency at Harvard.
One of Sunjay’s favorite Maroon Coat memories was a tour for Reta Haynes, when the university came together to honor her generosity in a meaningful way. From Corps members presenting yellow roses in the Quad to deans personally thanking her at each college, it was a moment that showed him the extraordinary gratitude and unity that make Texas A&M special. As a student from Louisiana, Sunjay’s opportunity to attend Texas A&M was only possible through the generosity of Foundation donors. He recognizes that it is because of that investment that he is who he is and where he is today.
One of his favorite student memories was studying abroad in Bonn, Germany, where he stayed with a family who had hosted numerous Aggies over the years. For Sunjay, it was a powerful reminder that the Aggie spirit truly connects people from all across the world. When reflecting on his favorite Aggie tradition, Sunjay shared that Silver Taps has always meant the most to him because it reflects the way Aggies care deeply for one another, even across lives never personally crossed. He believes in a world where people and places are often transient, Texas A&M remains intentional.
His advice would be: meet one new person every day. He shared that some of the most meaningful parts of his Aggie experience came from simply sitting down with someone new over a meal and learning their story.
We are grateful for the way Sunjay continues to reflect the heart of Maroon Coats, proud of all he has accomplished, and excited for the ways he will continue to change the world.

Sent off 31 seniors last night. We will forever cherish these years serving our university together and the lessons and friendships it blessed us with along the way. These people have made us better leaders, friends, and Aggies! It is bittersweet, but are so thankful!
