On Thursday, September 10, Jimena visited San Elizario Senior Center, where participants enjoyed their all-time favorite game: BINGO! They learned important traffic safety facts, shared their experiences behind the wheel, and had lots of fun along the way.

El jueves 10 de septiembre, Jimena visitó la comunidad de San Elizario, donde los participantes disfrutaron de su juego favorito: ¡BINGO! Aprendieron importantes consejos de seguridad vial, compartieron sus experiencias al volante y, sobre todo, ¡se divirtieron mucho!

Thursday, September 12, 2026, Pamela traveled to Angleton, Texas, to conduct a Mature Driver Presentation to a group of 33 seniors at The Bridge Church. This was a lunch and learn program. They loved the information and want us to come back. They talked and shared information on what all has changed since first driving till now.

Remember, Driver Assistance is not Driver Replacement. Be Smart and Drive Safe.

Sometimes being a safe driver means taking care of those little tasks before you hit the road such as making sure you have a clean view of traffic.

Keep your windshield, mirrors and headlights clean, and make sure your headlight aim is checked when your car is inspected.

Sunday, September 13 is Grandparents Day! It’s a great time to check in on yours to make sure they are still safe on the road. Some things to watch out for are:
- Frequent close calls or new dings, dents and scrapes on the vehicle.
- Getting confused or lost in familiar locations.
- Slow reactions to unexpected situations or other drivers.

Here are some tips for starting your conversation:
- Ride along: Observe their driving skills firsthand from the passenger seat before bringing up the topic.
- Use specific examples: Mention exact near-misses or incidents instead of speaking in generalities.
- Focus on respect: Use phrases like “hanging up the keys” rather than “taking away the keys” to preserve their dignity.
- Explore options: Offer alternative solutions like ride share apps, public transit.

1. Check if anyone is hurt - including yourself
2. Turn on your hazards
3. Call the authorities

8. Stick to the facts
9. Contact your insurance company
10. Call a tow truck (if needed)

Tuesday evening, September 8th, 2026, Amanda presented "Ocular Disease and the Aging Eye" to the United Women in Faith group at Saint Mark United Methodist Church of Cleburne. This presentation covers several common eye diseases that happen as part of the aging process such as cataracts, macular degeneration, glaucoma, and more rare conditions such as detached retina, diabetic retinopathy, and retinitis pigmentosa.

This session discusses the importance of a healthy lifestyle including eating fruits and vegetables and drinking plenty of water, controlling your blood sugar and blood pressure to prevent disease progression, as well as stresses yearly checkups with your physician and an eye doctor.

The best part of this session is the interactive googles showing what effects the disease could have on your eyesight, and the ladies loved the experience and learning more. If you have questions about your health, eyesight and how it can affect your driving, be sure to talk with your physician or health care provider.

Move Over or Slow Down. It is the Law in Texas that if you see flashing lights you must move over or slow down. And this isn't just for law enforcement, but for roadside workers and first responders.

Since Sept. 1, 2025, the Move Over or Slow Down law has been expanded to include vehicles driven by animal control officers and parking enforcement employees.

Tips for drivers:
- Be alert and pay attention when approaching roadside law enforcement, emergency vehicles, tow trucks, utility service vehicles and TxDOT vehicles with flashing lights on.
- When possible, move out of the lane closest to these vehicles.
Slow down to 20 mph below the posted speed limit if safely switching lanes is not possible or the road doesn’t offer multiple lanes.
- Reduce speed to 5 mph on roadways with posted speed limits of 25 mph or less.

Failure to follow the law can result in a fine of up to $1,250 for a first offense. Drivers who cause serious injuries may face jail time and a fine of up to $4,000.

Last Wednesday, September 2, 2026, Janet visited The Delaney at Lake Waco to partner with Lori Frost and Michelle Spotser to bring Safety Bingo to their residents. The event was both fun and educational, providing residents with an opportunity to learn important driver safety information while enjoying a friendly game of bingo.

Eighteen residents participated and were actively engaged throughout the event, asking thoughtful and insightful questions about safe driving.

Jolie Person, TxDOT Traffic Safety Specialist for the Waco District, also joined in the fun and brought some goodies for the residents. Her participation added an extra touch of excitement to an already enjoyable and informative event.
