What a great time at the Texas Rural Education Association annual conference this week! Texas A&M Department of Teaching, Learning and Culture faculty member Dr. Rebecca Sansom helped rural educators learn about using technology-mediated lesson study. This is a collaborative professional learning approach that adapts traditional lesson study for geographically dispersed educators by using digital tools to plan, observe, and refine instruction together.
Thanks to all the great rural educators that stopped by our booth too!

Join Dr. Marcus Johnson (TLAC) this summer, with middle school students in the TRACE Next Generation Scholars Academy at Texas A&M University. Students will spend one of its days visiting the LBJ Presidential Library & Museum in Austin, TX to analyze historical documents, explore civic leadership, and engage with the power of storytelling and research.

Students won’t just learn history — they will learn how to think with reason, lead purposefully, and see themselves as future scholars.

Limited seats are available for this selective summer academy and spots are already filling.

If you know a 6th–8th grade student who would benefit from this opportunity, encourage them to apply today.

When children struggle to read, the usual explanations cite intelligence or eyesight. One of the largest analyses of its kind is challenging both assumptions and offering a different picture of how reading skills develop.

Dr. Daniel Hajovsky of our Department of Educational Psychology led the study, which also points to practical steps teachers and parents can take to support struggling readers.
