Maroon Steel performed in the courtyard of the Liberal Arts and Arts & Humanities Building, as did saxophone students Aidan Bosse and Joshua Mark.

Workshops were held across the building, including drawing led by Dmitri Koustov, senior lecturer in the Texas A&M Visualization Program; button making led by Tina Budzise-Weaver, associate professor in the Visualization program; perler beading led by John Abi-Najm, assistant director of academic services; and bracelet making led by the college's Student Council.

Aurore Spiers, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Texas A&M Performance and Visual Studies program, has a new book about women in France who have been key to the production and history of film since the 1890s.

“Archiving the Past: Women's Film History in France, 1927-1978” was published by the University of California Press earlier this year. Spiers said she has always been intrigued by how film history has been documented.

“When historians talk about French film archives and historiography, they mention Henri Langlois, who co-founded the Cinémathèque Française — rarely the many women who worked with him,” she said. “Those women — and more — are at the center of my book.”

Texas A&M graduate and four-time Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Lyle Lovett is serving as a Hagler Fellow this semester, working with students and hosting a film screening and discussion April 7.

Join us Tuesday, April 7, for a screening of the 1999 film “Cookie’s Fortune,” directed by Robert Altman. Texas A&M graduate, singer-songwriter and actor Lyle Lovett appeared in the film alongside Glenn Close, Julianne Moore, Patricia Neal, Charles S. Dutton, Liv Tyler, Courtney B. Vance, Chris O’Donnell and Ned Beatty.

Filmmaker Anne Rapp, who wrote the screenplay, will join Lovett and faculty members Daniel Humphrey and Aurore Spiers to discuss working with Altman, who was known for an improvisatory and collaborative working method on set.

Rapp also wrote the screenplay to Altman’s 2000 film “Dr. T and the Women,” which Lovett created music for, and she directed the documentary “Horton Foote: The Road to Home” (2020).

The screening and discussion is part of Lovett’s Hagler Fellow residency with the College of Performance, Visualization and Fine Arts. It starts at 7 p.m. at Geren Auditorium in the Langford Architecture Center, Building B.

Save the date, next Tuesday, April 7th at 7pm in the Geren Auditorium on the College Station campus: The Performance and Visual Studies Program offers a night celebrating artistic collaborations in cinema, with musician and performer Lyle Lovett (current Hager Fellow in the College of Performance, Visualization & Fine Arts) and screenwriter Anne Rapp discussing their work with film legend Robert Altman (MASH, Nashville, The Player). (Rapp wrote three screenplays for Altman and Lovett acted for him in three films and composed the score for another.) The event is free, but seating is limited and first come, first serve. Looking for something to do tonight? Our Halloween screening of KWAIDAN, one of the classics of Japanese cinema, begins at 6:15 on the big screen of the Geren Auditorium (Langford B, room 101). There will be pizza and soft drinks at the intermission of this two part epic horror film (around 7:30).
