WDA members love spending time outside! Even with finals fast approaching, a group of our members came to bird mist netting lab held by Dr. Sarah Hamer. We learned how to properly set up nets, handle birds, take measurements and release our feathered friends. 😍 🐦 This is one of our favorite labs, and we try to hold it several times a year, so keep an eye out in the fall!

Special thanks to the Fossil Rim Wildlife Center staff for a fabulous trip out to Glen Rose! Fossil Rim is a drive through safari park that boasts over 1000 animals of 50+ species, many of whom are endangered or threatened in the wild, on 1800 acres. They actively participate in successful breeding programs for many of these species.

Thanks to all the WDA members who came! Feel free to share your own pictures from the trip!

Thanks so much to those of you that came out to participate in the CWD Testing Certification Wetlab tonight! These 20 fabulous individuals are now officially certified to collect samples from deer to send to the lab to test for Chronic Wasting Disease, a highly contagious prion disease that will require the work of wildlife biologists, veterinarians, epidemiologists, and many other professionals to effectively control.

We were delighted to have students in attendance representing A&M's Biomedical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine, Wildlife and Fisheries, Wildlife Ecology, and Animal Science departments. Our goal at TAMU WDA is to branch out across disciplines, come together, and facilitate an environment that grows professionals dedicated to pursuing excellence in their field and fostering those vital interdisciplinary relationships. We are excited to grow as an organization and fulfill this mission!

Special thanks to Dr. Walt Cook for leading the lab and Texas Animal Health Commission for their incredible support!
