Our very own instructor, Adriana Perez-Smith, enjoys a summer trip to Diamond Beach in Iceland! She says that it got its name because of the way that ice ice melts into beautiful diamondlike shapes. It is a nice departure from our record-setting Texas heat!

Fulbright smiles on HISP again!
The Department of Hispanic Studies received notification this week that we will be joined in the fall by a Fulbright-García Robles Scholar.
The U.S. and Mexico Commission for Educational and Cultural Exchange selected María Cristina Luna Tamayo to spend a semester with the Department and Texas A&M University starting August 2022.
Cristina will offer a class and work on her research on the politics of representation.

The Department of Hispanic Studies at Texas A&M University had FOUR individuals receive their doctoral degrees at Saturday, May 7, 2022 doctoral commencement and hooding ceremony. They (along with their dissertation advisors) were Dr. Rachel Allen (Gabriela Zapata),Dr. Damián Robles García (Hilaire Kallendorf), Dr. Rubria Rocha de Luna (Hilaire Kallendorf), and Dr. Paloma Serrano Viñuelas (not pictured) (Richard K Curry).
