In AGSC 302, Teaching School Based Agricultural Education, students recently had the opportunity to learn from Heather Adair, Associate Teaching, Learning, and Curricular Services Librarian at Texas A&M University Libraries and a Ph.D. student in the Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communications.

Heather visited Professor Erin Stutts' class to introduce students to the many resources available through Texas A&M Libraries and help them prepare for their first major writing assignment.

We are grateful for a strong community of professionals who invest their time and expertise in our students, providing them with the tools and resources they need to succeed both in the classroom and beyond.

As part of a recent National Association of State Directors of Agriculture (NASDA) trade mission to Kenya and Rwanda, Dr. Jack Elliot was invited as one of only two special guests to participate in this international effort. While in Kigali, Rwanda, he presented at the Africa Food Systems Forum during the Leveraging South-South & Triangular Cooperation in Agricultural Investments session, engaging with leaders focused on advancing agricultural development and investment.

The mission provided opportunities to build international partnerships, explore avenues for collaboration, and learn firsthand from local producers about the challenges and opportunities facing agriculture across East Africa. A memorable highlight included a visit to Ol Pejeta Conservancy, where livestock and wildlife coexist and conservation efforts protect the world's last two Northern White Rhinoceros.

Congratulations Dr. Elliot! 🎉

This week, we're highlighting an ALEC graduate who is already making an impact in agricultural education.

At Jordan High School, Ms. Sophia Casarez teaches Floral Design and Principles of Agriculture, introducing students to the many opportunities within the agricultural industry while helping them build skills for the future.

"Teaching is most definitely a labor of love. I love my students and getting to teach them about the things I am so passionate about."

In addition to teaching, Ms. Casarez coaches students in Job Interview and Agricultural Advocacy Leadership Development Events, as well as Veterinary Medicine and Milk Quality & Products Career Development Events.

From Aggieland to the classroom, Ms. Casarez is investing in the next generation of agricultural leaders. We are excited to follow her journey and celebrate her success.

Twenty-five years later, we still remember.

Today, we pause to honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and the courage of the first responders, service members, and everyday heroes who answer the call. May we never forget the strength, unity, and resilience that emerged in the face of tragedy.

Big congratulations to Morgan Marburger '25! Your ALEC family is cheering you on every step of the way.

Aggie Action Spotlight: Klaire Fontenot🎉

Through an internship with Herzog Cattle & Beef, Klaire gained hands-on experience in both the business and communications sides of agriculture. From assisting with the opening of the Herzog Beef storefront to creating social media content, designing graphics, and sharing daily operations, this experience provided a unique look at what it takes to connect consumers to agriculture.

Experiences like these help prepare our students to become future leaders in the agricultural industry.

Aggie Action Spotlight: Deanna Crawford🎉

As a nontraditional, first-generation student, Deanna is proving that it's never too late to chase your goals and embrace new opportunities.

This summer, Deanna participated in an international study experience in Da Nang, Vietnam, where she explored global event destinations, visited major tourism and convention sites, and gained a broader understanding of how culture, technology, and leadership shape the hospitality industry around the world. The experience expanded her perspective on leading in diverse environments and reinforced the importance of lifelong learning.

The experience challenged her to think globally, lead across cultures, and continue growing as a leader. As a single parent, she hopes her journey inspires her children and future Aggies to pursue their dreams, embrace new opportunities, and develop the leadership skills needed to make a difference in the world.

Way to represent ALEC on a global stage, Deanna!
