Did someone say Meet the Team Thursdays are back?! Today, we would like to introduce our summer intern, Elizabeth Lewis!
Elizabeth is a current second year graduate student here at Texas A&M’s The Bush School of Government & Public Service getting her masters in Public Service & Administration, along with a certificate in Homeland Security & National Defense. She also graduated with her bachelors from Texas A&M in 2025 and was a member of Squadron 11 and 1st Group Staff in our Texas A&M Corps of Cadets . When she is not interning with the best Emergency Management team, you can find her working as a dispatcher with Texas A&M University Police Department . Outside of work she loves baking, hanging out with her family and fiancé, and adding to her ever-growing collection of Lego flowers. We have loved having her here with us for the summer!

Last week, our executive director traveled to Taiwan where she presented at the New Taipei City Disaster Management International Conference alongside delegates from Singapore, South Korea, and Japan. She presented on Disaster Prevention Strategies for Sports and Special Events, sharing lessons learned from our recent summer events at Kyle Field. Following the conference, she had an opportunity to meet the Mayor of New Taipei City and tour their Emergency Operations Center. We are extremely proud of her and glad she had the opportunity to represent Texas A&M on an international level. 👍👏

Today, we would like to congratulate Laura Baugh on completing the National Emergency Management Basic Academy! Laura started with our team back in January of 2025 and has since grown to be a critical part of this team. Congratulations Laura! 🎉🥳

Today, emergency management teams from Texas A&M, City of Bryan, City of College Station, and Brazos County took part in a stakeholder panel for Texas A&M Camp ARCH students. The students rotated through different locations in Downtown Bryan, including the Community Emergency Operations Center. We always love an opportunity to engage with students and give them an inside look at what emergency management entails!

With Fourth of July weekend almost in full-gear, there are some important tips to keep in mind to ensure a fun and safe celebration, courtesy of Bryan PD:

🚘 Never drive impaired.
🎆 Use fireworks safely, responsibly, and legally.
🏊 Make smart choices around water, especially if there are young children around.
💦 Stay hydrated.
📱 Report any suspicious activities.

Yesterday, our team took a road trip to Austin! We spent some time visiting with the University of Texas Emergency Management team to share lessons learned to incorporate into our planning. Always grateful for a chance to listen, learn, and improve. And of course, we had to make quick stop at Buc-ee's! 👍

With the temperatures rising, it is important to know the meanings behind the different types of heat alerts.

🌞Extreme Heat Warning - There are extremely dangerous heat conditions expected or occurring. Avoid outdoor activities if possible, especially during the heat of the day.
🌞Extreme Heat Watch - Conditions are favorable for an extreme heat event but its occurrence and timing is unknown. Plan to suspend outdoor activities should this upgrade to a warning.
🌞Heat Advisory - While the heat conditions are not expected to reach warning criteria, it is still dangerously hot. Consider postponing or rescheduling outdoor events, especially during the heat of the day.

Hurricane season is officially here (June 1 - Nov. 30). The best time to prepare isn't when a storm is on the radar - it's right now (before all the shelves at H-E-B are empty 😉).
