Did someone say it's Meet the Team Thursday?! Today we would like to introduce Chris Lewis, our newest addition to Dallas, overseeing the Texas A&M College of Dentistry!
Chris grew up in Atlanta, Georgia and yes, he is a Georgia Bulldogs fan (hssss) but he is also an Aggie football fan (WHOOP!👍) so we'll allow it. He is coming to us from a 25+ year career as a 911 Operator and Police/Fire/EMS dispatcher for Cobb County, GA and the cities of Carrollton, Irving, and Flower Mound, Texas as well as the Lower Colorado River Authority in Austin. He got his B.S. in Emergency Management from Jacksonville State University and is currently working on his Executive Master in Public Service and Administration from .
While he is not working at his amazing new role, he likes to play video games and reading about history, historical fiction, and sci-fi. He is also a father of three , two teenagers and Gerald the pug. When able, he enjoys following soccer, rugby, and baseball. Welcome to the team Chris!!

As we kick off our National Preparedness Series, our first key action is simple: Know Your Risk. Understanding the specific threats and hazards that affect your area is the best way to stay ahead of them. Here in Brazos County, the main weather hazards to watch out for include:

❄️Severe Winter Weather

While our football team is focusing on beating Missouri State, we need YOU to focus on beating the heat. We understand the excitement around the first game of the season, but the Texas heat is no joke. We wanted to remind everyone to:

💦Hydrate Early: start drinking water/electrolytes BEFORE you get to Kyle Field.
🧢Dress Smart: If possible, wear lightweight, light-colored game day gear, throw on a hat and sunglasses, and don’t forget to put on sunscreen.
‼️Know the Signs of Heat Illness: If you start feeling dizzy, nauseous, sweaty, or get a sudden headache, seek medical attention immediately.

Let’s get ready to pack Kyle Field, keep each other safe, and of course, BTHO Missouri State! 🏈👍

September is National Preparedness Month! Established by FEMA, this campaign encourages everyone to take action and prepare for emergencies before disaster strikes. Throughout September, we’ll be sharing weekly posts focusing on the 4 key actions you can take to stay prepared:

📲With the fall semester officially underway, we wanted to take a minute to debunk a few myths about our emergency notification system. Code Maroon is the system used for official notifications of emergencies affecting our campus. We recommend anyone who comes to campus enroll in these notifications, including students of ALL levels, faculty, staff, parents, and visitors. There are multiple ways to receive messages, but in order to receive text messages, you must register your cell phone. Still need to register? Head to codemaroon.tamu.edu to enroll today. 🏃‍➡️

❗️If you frequently visit or attend classes at other campuses such as RELLIS, Texas A&M University at Galveston, Texas A&M-Fort Worth, the Higher Education Center at McAllen, or Texas A&M Health, be sure to enroll in their specific notifications too as Code Maroon is only for our main campus in College Station.

This Saturday, our partners over at Environmental Health & Safety are putting on their 2026 Dorm Burn during AggieFest to help promote fire safety for students residing in dorms or apartments. The live demonstration should be starting around 6:45 p.m. so be sure to pay it a visit!

With move-in week kicking off, our team wanted to give some tips on what they think students should keep in their emergency kits. Remember, these kits do not have to be fancy. National Emergency Management Awareness Month is a time to bring awareness to our profession and highlight some of our capabilities. Our team focuses on identifying potential risks and vulnerabilities that can impact the university community and implements strategies to mitigate them before they escalate into emergencies. This includes conducting regular assessments, developing safety protocols, and promoting awareness among students, faculty, and staff about emergency procedures. The team is also responsible for working with public safety partners, campus departments, and University leadership to respond to and help recover from emergencies affecting the campus community.
