Member spotlight! ✨ Meet first year vet student, Angela Thompson-Butler from Oklahoma City, OK 🐴
“I didn’t grow up with horses but I worked at an equine hospital for a year and fell in love with the field! I’m currently interested in pursuing a career in either equine surgery or reproduction.
My favorite part of Equine Club so far is the clinical rounds. I love seeing how much we are learning and how applicable the information is from day 1!”

Member spotlight: Meet Jasmine and her mare, Reba!
“My name is Jasmine Ridl and I am a second year now at KSU CVM! I’m from North Dakota and grew up on a beef cattle ranch and have always been riding horses. Though I have never really competed in any horse sports, I’ve ridden both english and western and trained my own mare from day one. I am interested in practicing large animal medicine after I graduate and hope to work with ranch horses and rodeo equine athletes in my local community!
My favorite equine experience in vet school is the equine lameness wet lab last fall! It was fun to learn about lameness exams and even practice them on live horses.”

This week’s “Member Spotlight” is Lorna Bryce! Lorna is a first year vet student here at Kansas State and is a wet lab coordinator for our club. 🐴🐎❤️ “My mom grew up with horses and exposed me to them at a young age, but I really got the bug when I was 13. I got my own horse when I was 16, a palomino American Saddlebred I named Ponyboy, who in my humble opinion is the best horse in the whole world. He had some major injuries that got me interested in equine medicine and my fate has been sealed ever since. I was very lucky to have an amazing equine ambulatory mentor back home in Georgia who exposed me to a lot. My experience with him had an emphasis on theriogenology, especially embryo flushes and transfers.” 🩺🧬 Favorite wet lab experience: “My favorite wet lab so far has been Texas A&M’s SCAAEP wet lab where I got some hands on experience putting in SPL’s, shooting and reading radiographs, and watching lameness exams.”

“I grew up in a small town, Halstead, in south central Kansas. Growing up, I always had animals, which is one of the reasons I decided to become a vet. I worked in a small animal clinic back home for about 7 years. Once in college, I started branching out and learning more about the equine field. This led me to doing equine externships in Texas, Oklahoma, and Colorado. These externships included learning about lameness exams and injections, general and emergency care, and theriogenology. I wouldn’t mind ending up in an equine practice after graduation, preferably dealing with reproduction, but am open to a mixed animal practice or specialization.”
🐴 Favorite SCAAEP activity: Traveling to Texas A&M with the KSU Equine Club for their wetlab last year. I did a bandaging lab, a laceration and suture lab, and a repro lab where I practiced suturing a caslick into a v***a. It was an awesome hands-on experience!
