Dear St. Agnes Alumnae,
More than 750 of you have responded indicating you want to attend the Celebrate St. Agnes! event scheduled for Sunday, September 26, 2021. Unfortunately, due to several factors including the rising presence of Covid variants in New York, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommendation to "avoid large events and gatherings," and similar concerns raised by the Diocese of Brooklyn, we, the Sisters of St. Dominic of Amityville, regretfully must cancel the Celebrate St. Agnes! event.
This decision did not come easily, especially because so many of you wanted the opportunity to walk the halls of St. Agnes one final time.
St. Agnes has provided each of you with a wonderful education, a faith filled direction for life and lifelong friendships. This is the legacy of the Dominican Sisters that has survived for more than 110 years.
The College Point Historical Society has prepared a video about the history and closing of St. Agnes. To view this video, please click here.
In addition to your memories of St. Agnes and friendships formed there, you may be interested in purchasing some St. Agnes memorabilia, e.g. sweatshirts, t-shirts, canvas bags, etc. Sr. Joan Martin, OP and some committee members will be at the school on the following dates and times to have these items available for purchase.
Sept. 16, Thursday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM (Enter the auditorium door on 123rd St.)
Sept. 25, Saturday from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM
If we are able to offer this memorabilia online, information will be provided in the near future.
God's blessing on you and your loved ones. Our hope is that you continue your relationship with the Sisters of St. Dominic and one another.
In continued hope,
Sister Peggy McVetty, OP, Prioress of the Sisters of St. Dominic
Sister Diane Morgan, OP '64
Sister Peggy Krajci, OP '61
