Art of Band Conducting & Teaching Workshop

July 11-14, 2023 @ UMD

We will be offering our Art of Band Conducting and Teaching Workshop at the University of Maryland from July 11-14, 2023 with Drs. Michael Votta, Andrea Brown and Craig Potter as clinicians.

The workshop will focus on developing rehearsal strategies, score study and gestural communication in a non-competitive environment. Participants will leave with techniques and strategies that can immediately be used in the classroom. This symposium is open to all, and is tailored to middle and high school band and orchestra teachers. First-time symposium attendees are particularly welcome

We will have conducting workshop masterclasses as well as sessions on conducting technique, score study, rehearsal techniques, selecting appropriate repertoire and programming.
The repertoire will be:

Gustav Holst - First Suite in Eb

James Barnes - Yorkshire Ballad

J.S. Bach/Moehlman - Prelude & Fugue in Bb

Cait Nishimura – The Nature of Trees Malcolm Arnold - Prelude, Siciliano and Rondo

Chen Yi – Spring Festival

The cost is $250 for conducting participants and $50 for non-conducting auditors.
