Afterhours Artist Highlight: Chris Combs

Chris Combs is an artist based in Washington, D.C and Mount Rainier, Maryland, whose sculptural artworks both incorporate and question technologies. Chris was the 2025 Artist in Residence at the Sanford Underground Research Facility and is a five-time recipient of the DC CAH Arts and Humanities Fellowship. He is a graduate of the Corcoran College of Art + Design and was a photo editor for National Geographic. He has shown at VisArts, McLean Project for the Arts, IA&A at Hillyer, and other DC-area institutions. His artwork Periscopes is permanently installed in Buzzard Point, D.C., and Madness Method, a collaboration with David Greenfieldboyce, was part of Georgetown GLOW. The Next Big Thing (MoCA Arlington Innovation Studio, 2024) recreated Hokusai’s Great Wave off Kanagawa with E-waste that reacted to visitors’ faces and movements. His show Supercycle (IA&A at Hillyer, 2023) invoked cycles of hype, such as “AI” and cryptocurrencies. Outsized Effects (Gradient Projects, Thomas, WV, 2023–4) included the room-sized Allegheny Data Company, examining data mining through the visual lens of coal mining. Chris is a member of Otis Street Arts Project. Come check out Chris Combs’s work as a part of our current exhibiton, Afterhours, here at the STAMP Gallery.

Afterhours Artist Highlight: Electra Pelias

Electra Pelias received her Master’s in Fine Arts in Studio Arts at George Washington University in May 2026. Her works have been shown in multiple galleries and museums in DC, Maryland, Virginia, and New Orleans, including the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, Corcoran School of the Arts & Design, Tulane University, and Transformer Gallery. In 2026, she was voted Best Local Maker by Washington City Paper. She additionally owns and operates Electra Makes, an art and accessories brand with a comprehensive online presence and steady growth in both engagement and sales. Electra currently teaches Ceramics at Montgomery College. Today, Electra channels that same scrappy, heartfelt energy into a multidisciplinary practice that spans sculpture, painting, fiber, printmaking, and digital manipulation. She gravitates toward secondhand and “once-loved” materials, often sewing, mending, or reimagining objects that carry their own histories. Her work frequently combines tactile softness with structural rigidity, creating a physical and emotional tension that mirrors the messy process of feeling deeply. Come check out Electra Pelias’s work here at STAMP Gallery as a part of our current exhibition, Afterhours.

Afterhours Artist Highlight: McCoy Chance

McCoy Chance is a Baltimore-based artist, filmmaker, musician, and educator. His practice centers on hybrid analog/digital video systems, repair-based collaboration, and the afterlives of media technologies. Through obsolete display technologies, analog video feedback, custom signal chains, and live processing, Chance reactivates damaged, injured, and abandoned electronics as sites of care and audiovisual experimentation. He received his MFA in Intermedia and Digital Art from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, where he also earned dual BAs in Media and Communication Studies and Music Technology. His work has been exhibited, screened, and performed nationally and internationally, with recent presentations at BINNAR International Festival of the Arts in Portugal, Lviv Art Palace in Ukraine, The Peale Museum in Baltimore, The Crow’s Nest, Manhattan Neighborhood Network as part of The Americas Film Festival, and Linehan Concert Hall as part of UMBC’s Professional Concert Series. His films and video works have screened in Venezuela, Spain, Canada, Colombia, India, New York, Chicago, and Baltimore. He currently teaches in the Film and Moving Image Department at Stevenson University and the Visual Arts Department at UMBC. Come check out McCoy Chance’s work here at STAMP Gallery as a part of our current exhibition, Afterhours.
