Happy National Compost Day! An Office of Sustainability staff member took a trip out to the PG County Organics Compost Facility that processes UMD’s compost collection. In 2025, 1,400 tons of food waste was sent to compost.
The facility covers 200 acres and has the capacity to process 32,000 tons of food waste which is broken down into compost and used at Terp Farm.
