The University of Maryland Fellows Program This selective, year-long program combines a fall seminar on federal policy with a spring internship in Washington.

Professional development workshops, trips to Capitol Hill, and conversations with policy leaders prepare students for a career related to public service. The program specializations are:

1. Economic Diplomacy
2. International Security and Intelligence
3. Global Health Challenges and Water Security
4. Energy and Environmental Policy
5. Responses to Global Challenges
6. Science Diplomacy
7. Publ

Are you looking to work in a supportive, innovative, and collaborative environment? The UMD Fellows Program: Maryland, Federal, and Global is hiring a Communications and Outreach Manager!

We are searching for a highly motivated individual (including recent graduates) with a passion for innovation and making a difference. This position calls for a dynamic and talented communicator who wants to leave their mark on the communications and outreach strategy for a growing university program. This is a great position for people with stellar interpersonal skills, creativity and drive, a passion for public service and/or internationalism, and a desire to empower students! Skills needed include writing, website content management, social media, Adobe suite, and an eagerness to learn and grow! Please help us spread the word!

Last week hosted over 40 students from across the university in the Maryland Room in Marie Mount Hall. Daniela, our student assistant and incoming Graduate Assistant for next year led the session to help prepare students to apply for State Department internships when the application opens for one week this summer.

This student-led workshop helped students from across the university prepare to apply for prestigious and competitive State Department Internships. Thank you Daniela!

Congratulations to one of our current Fellow, Samantha Briggs, for her new role as RHA President! We know she'll make a big positive impact during her tenure.

โ€œI enjoy advocating for student voices and helping them to be heard and then addressing key issues that impact students on our campus,โ€ Briggs said. -DBK

Student, Recent Alums Awarded Foreign Service Fellowships 04/26/2024

Amazing alums, Mariama Cham and Yacine Bai, were just featured in Maryland Today for receiving prestigious fellowships!

Mariama (Global Fellows branch, US Diplomacy '23) received the Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Fellowship. Yacine (Global Fellows branch, Responses to Global Challenges '19) received the Donald M. Payne International Development Fellowship. These incredible fellowships provide funding for a master's degree followed by a federal job appointment.

Why Apply to be a Fellow? Take it from program alum Phillip Manzon: "The UMD Fellows Program has enhanced my experience as a student. I have enjoyed being able to work with other students pursuing careers in public service. The UMD Fellows program gave me the necessary resources and support to find a professional internship. I highly recommend applying for the program for the valuable resources and experiences it provides."

Phillip was a Fellow during the 2022-2023 academic year in the Global branch and the energy and Environmental Policy concentration. As a Fellow, he interned with the Maryland General Assembly. He is also a Gilman Scholar and an .umd Major!
