Kamryn, who interned with Sports Medicine for three semesters, shared she gained confidence in her ability to work in a variety of environments, including both contact and non-contact sports settings. The experience taught her the importance of stepping outside of her comfort zone and being open to trying new things. It also helped her learn to adapt and be prepared for unexpected situations.
Lola, an Applied Sports Science intern for one semester, gained experience working with Catapult, a device monitoring athlete performance, and assisted in data collection and analysis. She noted this is a rapidly growing field and a great avenue for anyone looking to combine data analysis and sport!
Natalie, a Sports Nutrition intern for one semester, said this experience has shown her a whole new perspective within athletics.She loved learning about the vital role nutrition has on performance and recovery.

Ready to lead innovative research at the intersection of environmental health, chronic disease, and aging?
The Epidemiology Branch at NIH’s National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) is seeking a Tenure-Track Investigator to lead an independent research program focused on the environment and chronic diseases of aging.
This is a great opportunity for exceptional applicants with a Ph.D., M.D., and/or equivalent doctoral degree, with a preference for at least 3 years of postdoctoral research experience in their field and an outstanding publication record. The position is located in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina.

KNES faculty making a difference!
How much of HERstory is reflected in the HIStory of exercise science and sports medicine?
A new Special Communication in the Translational Journal of the American College of Sports Medicine reviews 55 years of Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise publications to examine the representation of female research participants and female manuscript authors. After reviewing 10,371 articles published from 1969–2023, the authors found that female individuals accounted for 44% of research participants and 28% of all authors across the journal’s history.
These findings highlight longstanding disparities while offering important data that can help inform future journal policy and practice aimed at addressing the underrepresentation of both female participants and female authors.

Due to the forecast for severe weather on May 20, the main Commencement ceremony will move to its planned alternative date on Thursday, May 21, 2026. This change does not affect individual school and college ceremonies.
