Today is the day! The NOI Philharmonic takes the legendary stage for the first time at Carnegie Hall for a fantastic night of music celebrating America’s 250th anniversary!
We asked some of our fellows who are making their personal debut at Carnegie Hall some questions ahead the incredible experience!
Conducted by music director Marin Alsop and joined by the incredible string and vocal trio Time For Three the program features American classics by Leonard Bernstein with “West Side Story” and “On the Town” as well as two incredible pieces by Gabriela Ortiz “Antrópolis” and Kevin Puts “Contact” which Time For Three joins the orchestra on. It is going to be a fantastic show and we hope to see you there!

National Orchestral Institute
The National Orchestral Institute is a four-week program of intensive study covering chamber music, unconducted chamber orchestras, orchestral performance.
NOI provides important tools for professional success and artistic achievement, as well as preparation for the unique challenges facing 21st century musicians. Saturday night! Two-time Grammy Award-winning conductor David Alan Miller returns to lead the Philharmonic in a provocative and contemplative program featuring the premiere of Nathan Lincoln-DeCusatis’ “The River That Flows Both Ways,” Strauss’ “Don Juan” and Carl Nielsen’s powerful Symphony No. 4, “The Inextinguishable.”

Grammy Award-winning conductor David Alan Miller has established a reputation as one of the leading American conductors of his generation. Music Director of the Albany Symphony since 1992, he now also serves as Artistic Advisor to the Sarasota Orchestra. Through exploration of unusual repertoire, educational programming, community outreach and recording initiatives, he has reaffirmed the Albany Symphony’s reputation as the nation’s leading champion of American symphonic music and one of its most innovative orchestras. A champion of American music, Miller has led the NOI Philharmonic on several recordings under the Naxos Records label as part of its “American Classics” series, including their 2018 Grammy-nominated album for “Best Orchestral Performance.” This Saturday, he leads the NOI Philharmonic in works by Lincoln-DeCusatis, Nielsen and Strauss.

This Saturday, Join the NOI Philharmonic and David Alan Miller as they follow the Hudson River in the premiere of NOI+F Composition Faculty Nathan Lincoln-DeCusatis’ “The River That Flows Both Ways.” Beginning in icy tranquility high in the Adirondacks mountains, the river carries the listener through a series of dramatic landscapes, mountains, palisades and tidal basins as it builds in momentum and finally meets the metropolis at its end in a blur of rhythmic energy.
