Alpha Theta Team @ AGR Fall Shootout

Yesterday Charles Otto passed away. To many he was Delegate Otto from Somerset County - to us he was Brother Otto. Br. Otto , a Virginia Tech graduate was the picture of what a good brother should be - farmer, respectful of the land, plenty of common sense, soft spoken and he was blessed with a big grim and a wonderful laugh. He always treated me as a brother, and he understood the value of sharing a beer with a brother. Charles will be missed.

Our chef of the last decade and Brother Christian Smith is getting married. We’ve set up a fundraiser for his honeymoon. If you’ve enjoyed a meal as a collegiate or his cooking for every Founder’s Day over the last 10 years…please give some money to help him have a few drinks on a beach.

By the grace of God and the genius of Alexander Graham Bell do you remember studying these Alpha Theta history books when you were a pledge ... or in today politically correct language - " new initiates " ? Well your alumni board has some exciting news - after a decade or more of work in rebuilding The House from top to bottom - we think it's time for a fun project. We will be creating a new updated Alpha Theta History Book!! We envision this one incorporating lots of pictures and we need your help. Pictures from South Seas Parties , Western Party , formals , work sessions and anything else fit for print ( 🙄) lol. Also needed is just good ole stories - the 70s bros trip to Florida for formal is a classic story that needs to be documented for the ages. Noble Rulers getting the famous cherries 🍒 for 1/2 century is a unique story specific to Alpha Theta and should be included ( please - definitely no pictures on that subject ( 😳 ) lol. On a serious note we will definitely be including pictures of the befores and afters of our renovation project over the last few years. What else should be included? The more the merrier in this collective effort so reach out if you'd like to be included in this fun project. We expect to sell a print and a virtual copy of this. Our intention is to simply cover our cost and not attempt to make money. This is to be a fun project celebrating our beloved Alpha Theta. Stay tuned for this project as it picks up speed!!

And so it begins .... - The kitchen @ The House is completely cleaned out in preparation for the kitchen renovation to begin this Friday. It's worth taking a moment to reflect on this significant accomplishment. After a multi million $ renovation of The House redoing the kitchen is the final stage in a complete renovation of the entire AGR House. This kitchen remodel is a 360,000 $ job with all the commercial equipment upgrades and fire suppression system amongst many other features. We are doing this kitchen remodel out of cash and have incurred no further debt for this project. The fact we were able to do so from alumni donations after completing the multi million dollar house renovation is an incredible accomplishment - especially when so many other Greek Houses are struggling at UMCP. This happened because of the generosity and confidence of our alumni , dedicated volunteers working on these projects over the last 10 + years and an outstanding collegiate chapter that motivates us to keep the Alpha Theta legacy going strong as we approach our 100 year anniversary. After many of us causing them stress as undergrads ( lol) we like to think A.B. Hamilton , Dr. Poffenberger , Dr. Elmer Cooper and others would be proud of us. ❤️
