It is a dry land and synthetic ice development facility for hockey goaltenders of all ages. Iron Range Goalie Academy is owned and operated by Derek Peterson, who grew up tending goal on the Iron Range. In high school, Derek was named to the Iron Range All Conference Team and was named a Minnesota All State Honorable Mention Goaltender in 2006. After high school, while attending Itasca Community College, Derek began coaching youth goaltenders in the Grand Rapids and Virginia Hockey Programs. After completing his Associates Degree, Derek continued his education at Bemidji State University. There, Derek became the head goalie coach for the Bemidji State Women’s Program. After graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Social Studies and Coaching, Derek moved to Coleraine and started his work in the Greenway Hockey Program. In 2013, Iron Range Goalie Academy's doors officially opened. Whether you are looking for a Goalie Camp, Training Program, or a simple Tune-Up, the puck stops at Iron Range Goalie Academy.

Goalie of the Month for October 2026: Tyler Finc

Tyler is a fifteen year old goaltender from Esko, Minnesota. He is a sophomore at Esko High School and is excited to enter this upcoming hockey season!

Going into his seventh year between the pipes, Tyler began his journey as a tendy because the pads looked cool! Making athletic split saves is the scenario Tyler craves the most!

The Buffalo Sabres are his favorite NHL team. Their goalie; Alex Lyon (Baudette, MN) is Tyler's idol!

The Hermantown Hawks are his biggest rival. Northwoods Credit Union Arena has been his home barn for playing youth hockey with the Cloquet-Esko-Carlton Lumberjacks! Amsoil Arena is his most likeable venue.

Salmon for dinner, apple sauce for a snack... all washed down with Gatorade are Tyler's puck stopping food recipes!

His best game he's played was a 25 save shutout against the Duluth Denfeld Hunters. One piece of coaching that has stuck for Tyler is keep his hands out in front of him.

Before games he listens to his music playlist to get "dialed in!" CCM equipment is his top choice!

Congratulations and Good luck to Tyler Finc in being Iron Range Goalie Academy's Goalie of the Month for October 2026!
