Making ice cream with rock salt to show that sodium chloride (table salt) lowers the temperature of ice enough to freeze cream! Put the ingredients together into a small bag, zip it, put it inside a larger bag with ice and rock salt. Shake it for 15 minutes and voila!! Another yummy science experiment!

ナトリウムの実験。材料を入れて封をし、氷と岩塩を入れた大きい袋に入れて振ること１５分。冷蔵庫なしにバニラアイスの出来上がり。塩が氷の温度を下げてくれたのですね。美味しい実験ありがとう。

I just spent three days in a row burning marshmallow Peeps to show what happens when sugar, gelatin, and air bubbles are heated. I LOVE my job! Happy springtime!

Last week the class explored the center of gravity and made things balance in seemingly impossible ways!
This week we've started forensic science, collecting our fingerprints and studying them. Says one student, "Now I can prove it wasn't me who got into the cookie jar!"

We're off to a great start in the winter session!

Starting up the winter session of science class at Manitou next week. 8 weeks of hands-on science tailored to the age group! Coming up: forensic science, gravity, magnetism , and of course, explosions!! Join us, there's still room!

寒くなってきたので理科教室は屋内へ移動。フクロウの吐き出した毛玉を解剖。何を食べたのか、出てきた骨から考えます。娘とのホームスクールでは水の移動の実験。色が混ざってキレイに並びました。

A mother of one of my science enrichment students came up to me after class, and happily told me that the first thing her son told her at pickup was 'I LOVE SCIENCE!' It was a moment that made my day! I love science, too!!

先日の実験教室の後、生徒さんのお母様に、お迎え後の一言目が「僕サイエンス大好き！」だった、という嬉しいお言葉をいただきました！子供たちの生き生きとした顔やこういう瞬間、「やっててよかった」と感じます。さーて、来週も頑張ります！

Yesterday's science enrichment class, exploring the law of buoyancy! A ball of clay and marbles sink, but if we make the clay into a boat shape and put the marble 'passengers' on it, they float!!
