Rowena la gata 🐈‍⬛ likes my new office space!

Spring is the perfect time for change. With my old office being converted to a nursery (in case you haven’t heard— I’m due in August 🍼) I’ve had to reestablish myself into a new part of our home. I’m happy to report that my students love the switch up in my virtual background— there’s just something nice about change, y’know?

With that being said, if you’ve been thinking about introducing a new language to your kiddos, I’ll be opening up **two slots** for the months of April-June. 🤩 Availability is limited because of my big change at the end of the Summer, so now’s the time for a change in your child’s schedule!

Throwback to my time studying abroad in Spain. 🌍✨

Being immersed in the language and culture every day was an incredible experience. On top of that, I'm really grateful for the classes I took all throughout college that really prepared me for the journey too. They not only gave me structure, but the accountability and foundation I needed to really grow in Spanish as well.

It's that time of year where New Year's resolutions are being made left and right but if you're wanting to learn Spanish, it can be daunting to know where to begin. 😵‍💫

You could try watching a video every day for a week and then lose motivation because you're not getting that much-needed accountability or connection with the teacher. Or you could pour over self-instructed textbooks and still feel stumped because it's just not sticking. 😮‍💨

Happy New Year 🥳

Here's an exciting update for you all!

Many opportunities are on the horizon for my small business. I will be teaching a Spanish class for adults through Spanish with Dominique so if you've been itching to begin your language learning journey, I'll be sharing more information by the end of the week!

I'm also gearing up on launching a new curriculum soon for my beginner students. The materials have been tested through my community education classes for beginners, all of which start back up on February 4th! Central Minnesota residents, I'll share a link for you soon to sign your kiddos up. 🤩

If you've been thinking about signing your child up for my virtual Spanish classes, I'll be opening spots soon for 2025! There's limited availability since my schedule is tight, but once I'm ready, you all will be the first to know.

It's Indigenous Peoples' Day! ✊🏻✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿

This morning I've been listening and learning from Yásnaya Elena Aguilar Gil, a notable linguist, writer, researcher, and activist from Oaxaca, Mexico.

Her work focuses on the endangered original languages of Mexico, specifically on her own native dialect (Mixe, pronounced mee-hay in English) and how it's crucial to promote linguistic diversity across the board.

In this video, Yásnaya breaks down the origin of the word 'indigenous' not only from a linguistic standpoint but through a societal lens as well. She also gives a wonderful overview of how specific indigenous languages have evolved and shifted over the years.

She states that according Catalogue of Endangered Languages of the University of Hawaii, one language dies every three months on average. 🤯 This is just another reason to amplify the crucial work she and so many others are doing! 📣

Today marks three years of teaching Spanish with ROCORI Community Education! 🎉

I am so proud of this program that I’ve built from the ground up. I have returning students each semester along with several new faces and it brings me so much joy ❤️ Today I launched a new class that features my brand new curriculum as well, something that’s been in the works for over the last few months.
