Huge congratulations to Kellenberg Memorial High School student Emilia Syvertsen, who traveled to Syracuse to represent Long Island at the New York State Science Congress. 🧬✨

Emilia took us behind the scenes of her weekend on the competition floor presenting her project, GL"PAW"-1 Variant Analysis on Canine Familiaris. After a winning presentation at LISEF, she advanced to the state level to showcase her research, which was supervised right here at the DNALC by Jeff Petracca, our Manager of Student and Public Research.

While she didn't receive an award at the states, the competition at this level is incredibly fierce, and we are so proud of the immense work, dedication, and sophisticated research she has completed.

Highlights from the 2025–26 Barcode Long Island Symposium at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory! 🧬🔬

This year, 328 students and 24 mentors presented the results of 106 unique research projects. From setting up posters in the Grace Auditorium to listening to an incredible keynote address by Dr. Lawrence E. Reeves on using mosquitoes to study ecosystems, it was an unforgettable day of science.

Congratulations to all the student researchers on completing their projects and presenting their biodiversity findings.

Congratulations to DNALC Assistant Director Jason Williams for being elected an AAAS Fellow.
