Sad news for all alumni of English Language Programs (IEP & AEP) at Saint Michael's College: The IEP is being discontinued for financial reasons, per decision by the Board of Trustees on June 24, 2020. International programming for individual students and groups from all around the world will end after 66 years. All of us in the Applied Linguistics Department are very proud of the high-quality, CEA-accredited program we have provided for 66 years during the academic year and the summer. We have loved our profession--Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)--because of you, our students. You will always be in our hearts, and you can always remain connected through this page. However, the page will no longer be updated after June 30, 2020. Holding true to our motto--Many Languages, One Humanity--we wish you peace, good health, and prosperity!

NEW: Online/distance SUMMER COURSES at Saint Michael’s College!

We are offering an intermediate+ English course that you can take from your home. An experienced Saint Michael’s College ESL teacher will teach you English reading, speaking, listening, and writing skills through content-based instruction in real-time/live lessons. We welcome any learners who want to improve their English.

Theme: Social Networks

Big questions:
How does the behavior of individuals turn into mass movements?
What effect do social networks have on behavior?
How has Internet technology changed our behavior?
Level: Intermediate+

Dates: June 15 – August 7, 2020 (8 weeks)

Registration deadline: June 1

Instructional time per week: 3 hours per week of real-time instruction (video-conference) + 6 hours per week of homework

Meeting Times: To be arranged with the course participants

Here some more wonderful memories of our spur-of-the-moment trip to the Burlington Bike Path and our 3-mile walk during IEP 420 Oral Skills class. I miss you all very much--Tomotaka, Haruto, Shuma, Erina, Rika, Aimi, Midori, Akari, Emiri, and Kento!

Wonderful memories of our 18 IEP students from Tamagawa University, plus one Sakae Institute student, who were recalled on March 16, 2020. Here some pictures of our last fun Quizlet LIVE vocabulary competition in the IEP 420 Oral Skills class with Christine Bauer-Ramazani. On March 19, the whole group left for Japan after a tearful good-bye from their Chinese friends at Cashman Hall. They sent pictures of the group at Chicago O'Hare, wearing masks--social distancing? Not so much. :-) They arrived safely in Tokyo on March 20. We miss this lively, energetic, sociable, loveable, and hard-working group of students terribly but wish them well for their new endeavors in Japan! They will be forever in our hearts.

A couple of Friday’s ago, Saint Michael’s celebrated the International Festival. This enriching experience offered students the chance to try new foods, listen to music, watch dances and interact with other purple knights! Our IEP students put on two wonderful dances. Bravo 👏 @ Saint Michael's College
