Colchester School District CSD serves approximately 2,250 students from preschool to grade 12. The district operates five separate school buildings and an administrative building.

We are an incredible learning community for students and employees alike.

In addition to Colchester residents, tuition students are accepted from the Islands (Grand Isle, North Hero, and South Hero) and other districts. We employ about two

hundred teachers and fifteen administrators. Our school district is renowned for its implementation of differentiated instruction as part of its efforts to provide all students with meaningful and appropriate educational opportunities. Colchester High School graduates attend a wide range of colleges and universities throughout the state and country.

This summer, the Colchester High School Class of 1976 reconnected for an unforgettable 50-year reunion! 💙💚 Organized by alumni, the celebration included a special visit to CHS, where the school welcomed them back with building tours, a walk down the new Hall of Fame, yearbook browsing, and gift bags featuring custom CHS hats.

The group raved over the new gym floor, laughed about old upstairs bathrooms that are now offices, and loved the student stairwell murals.

Our staff even picked up a great piece of history: as CHS's inaugural graduating class, the Class of '76 got to pick the school colors and mascot! We are all pretty lucky they chose blue and green and Champ the Lake Monster—the runner-up was the brown and white Crickets! 😅 🦗

Local author and photographer John Churchman stopped by Malletts Bay School to share some summer storytime magic with our young readers. The kids were captivated as he read from the beloved Sweet Pea & Friends series and shared stories about the real-life farm animals that inspire his books! He even brought sheepdog and star of A Farm for Maisie in to visit!

To top off an amazing day, thanks to the Children’s Literacy Foundation's (CLiF) generosity, every single student got to select two books to take home and add to their personal libraries!

A huge thank you to John Churchman for inspiring our students, and to the CliF for helping us keep the joy of reading alive and thriving all summer long!

We turned the first page on an exciting new chapter for Union Memorial School! On Tuesday, July 7, the Colchester community gathered on the UMS field to officially break ground on our brand-new school addition.

This video captures highlights from our celebration, featuring inspiring remarks from Superintendent Amy Minor, School Board Chair Lindsey Cox, and UMS Principal Colleen Birner. Watch as our wonderful community mingles, future generations of students grab shovels to move the ceremonial pile of dirt, and everyone’s favorite friendly lake monster, Champ, makes a special appearance!

Thank you to everyone who joined us and to the entire community for making this facilities project possible. We can't wait to watch this new space grow!
