After having so much fun with the fall STEM Club session, Elliott Cong put on a winter session. In addition to building and shooting off air pressure and reaction rockets, and conducting energy transfer experiments this year, student scientists participated in a sound unit and a Newton's Laws of Motion unit. The Sharks made stringed, wind, and percussion instruments. Using the Shark-O-Naut rocket launcher, they were challenged to make an "impossible shot" using math by adjusting angle and pressure in the rocket. Students also had fun racing with a leaf blower while learning about Newton's 3rd law of motion: "For every action, there's always an equal and opposite reaction." The Shark STEM Club was the brainchild of Eli Cong, a Mt. Spokane engineering student who wanted to get students engaged in STEM. Donations for the club created a STEM scholarship for this year's Midway Alumni Scholarship Fund.
In total the 2026 Midway Market and STEM Clubs raised $7,527 this year! The students chose to give out 6 scholarships of $1,254.50 each. All in all, the Midway Market Scholarship program has raised $66,910 and awarded 42 scholarships. We truly appreciate all the families, students, and shoppers, who participated in these programs for supporting past and present Sharks in their quests for learning! We couldn't do it without you. Thank you for being education advocates!
