We celebrated International Dot Day for the past few days (so as many students as possible could participate.) Everyone made their mark differently!

We talked a little about Dolly in our first days of library classes. We have her biographies; several students told me their moms were weepy listening to “Jolene,” “I Will Always Love You,” or my favorite, “Here You Come Again.” But the biggest teachable from Dolly Parton’s legacy is that she helped provide literacy to millions of kids worldwide. **4.8 million books in Washington State, alone! 💕

So many fun motivators for reading! Aside from the experience of reading which is motivating in itself. My recs: “Wombat in Waiting” (Katherine Applegate’s newest book of prose) “The Fort” (Gordon Korman) and the Millicent Quibb series by crazy Kate McKinnon.
ALSO! Children's Ebooks (Spokane Public Library account required) https://www.tumblebooklibrary.com/home.aspx

Spend time reading this summer for fun and free prize opportunities! Kids, teens, and adults can sign up for Summer Reading Club at spokanelibrary.beanstack.org.

We have dozens of her books and while the “How Do Dinosaurs..” series is the most widely read, “Encounter” is one of her most profound. 🫶🏼

The Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI), and the children’s book world, is saddened by the news that author, mentor and friend, Jane Yolen, has died. She was 87 and her loss cannot be measured.

Celebrated “World Book Day” by sampling/rotating books from 8 different genres. Love when students discover a new favorite! ❤️
