Governor Brad Little officially proclaimed Lakes Appreciation Month (July) in Idaho! Idaho is home to thousands of lakes that define our state's landscape, support vibrant communities, and offer opportunities for recreation and connection with nature. What's your favorite Idaho lake?đŸ‘€

All through the year, we can all show our appreciation for lakes by protecting our vital water resources. Simple actions like moderating water use, limiting use of lawn and garden chemicals, and properly disposing of waste, medications, and hazardous materials helps safeguard the clean water that sustains our communities.

A huge thank you to Justin Shaw with HMH Engineering and Chris Bosley with the City of Coeur d'Alene for giving the SEEP committee a tour of the recently-completed stormwater project near East Tubbs Hill!

Funded through Governor Brad Little's Leading Idaho Initiative for Coeur d'Alene Lake, this is one of the City's many efforts under its Stormwater Outfall Volume Reduction Program. This particular project captures stormwater runoff from approximately 76 acres of residential area and redirects it into a treatment system instead of discharging directly to the lake, which is where it used to go.

This design utilizes a series of drywell structures that are surrounded by filter fabric and a sand/compost filtering media that the stormwater percolates through before entering groundwater in the area.

Tis the season - the City of Coeur d'Alene's Fall Leaf Fest starts up November 13th. Don't forget to get your leaves out if you live in Coeur d'Alene. Not only does this save you some hauling - it also helps protect water quality in Coeur D'Alene Lake! Here are some guidelines from the City of Coeur d'Alene's website:

Pick-up will start south of Sherman Avenue and move north.
Leaves will be picked up only once, so mark your calendars!

Do ...

Start putting leaves/needles out after Wednesday, November 1st.

Keep the leaves about one foot away from the curb line to allow for water flow.

Please move vehicles off of the street during leaf pick-up.

Be alert for leaf pick-up equipment traveling through your neighborhood.

Keep a safe distance away from leaf pick-up equipment.

Please Do NOT...

Place bagged leaves in the street.

Mix branches, garden debris, grass clippings or other trash in with leaves.
