Getting back into the swing of things with the first piano lessons of the year!! It’s a late start for my studio, as I’m coming off maternity leave from the summer. I’m excited to see everyone as we start working + learning music again.

He knows black + white keys and the difference between high + low sounds on the keyboard… which is a pretty decent start for a barely two-year-old. 🤩

This is what it looks like when you accidentally schedule your studio recital for Memorial Day weekend. 😂🙈 (we were missing seven!!)
But SO proud for the ones who were able to show up, many of whom performed two gorgeous pieces to help fill the gaps. And so thankful for the rest of my (small!) studio and the wonderful Spring Semester we had together.

RECITAL DAY with my little studio!! 🎹🤍
Starting a studio all over in a new home *and* with a baby is not for the faint of heart, but all these people + the ones who couldn’t make it to perform today (as well as their support teams of parents, grandparents, siblings, etc) have been a dream to work with.
So proud of you all + thrilled to be your teacher. 🤍🎹

I had a wonderful time collaborating with the .choirs for their winter concert this year; a packed house + a program full of Christmas music, what could be better? ❄️❤️🎄

Every student coming into their first December lessons wants to play Carol of the Bells. 🔔 I’m the last teacher to ever recommend letter-names-in-the-staff music; but I feel like those beginners who started in September and are on the cusp of reading music deserve their shot at this Christmas classic.
My variation for pre-readers (including the dreaded notes in the note heads!!) is up for free on my blog today!

It is that time of year ALREADY: where I’m not satisfied with a particular Christmas arrangement for a particular student so I end up re-writing several versions of nearly everything. 🤣✌🏼
This year it’s starting off with a version of “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear” for my student Grace; this particular version is based off a 1959 arrangement by John Schaum (who clearly admired Chopin!).

It’s TIMEEEEE - first lessons of the year are happening today!! The studio is clean, the books are organized, the baby is with the sitter (🥹), and I get to interview three new students. So excited to be back!! 🎹
