Nothing like feathered supervisors to make sure the job is done right. The lower hinge on the chicken coop door was held up (not successfully) by stripped and missing screws. I filled the holes with wooden skewers, drilled new pilot holes and replaced the screws. Better than new.

It’s good to have the freeze dryer running again. The circuit breaker had been tripping when we tried to run it because of the other appliances using the same circuit. A call to our favorite electrician set in motion that solution and now the freeze dryer has its own dedicated circuit.

I’ve seen a lot of really cool plants this week, from exotic trees at the May Arboretum in Reno, NV, to old growth coast redwoods in Muir Woods, artistic vertical gardens in San Francisco, and even some very impressive houseplants. But I think my favorite was stumbling upon these snow plants near Lake Tahoe. You should look them up. They are fascinating organisms.

I had two thoughts when I tasted this new -to-me crunchy snack: 1. This is delicious! 2. I think I could make this at home.

This is home where we had our first real garden. 🌵 ☀️ Every place has gardening pros and cons. We never had to worry about killing frosts, mildew, or slugs in Arizona!
