Woodland Middle School is special. On a recent tour, I was lucky enough to get peppered (unannounced) with great policy questions from Mr. Traverse’s 7th grade social studies students regarding cell phone policy, bell schedule, passing periods, 4 day vs. 5 day school weeks, etc. I also got to spend some quality time visiting with Mr. (Christopher) Rogers in his Junior Engineering Classroom. Those students are getting an early start on meeting the needs and challenges of the real world!

Great to see so many great local schools and districts at the top of this statewide ranking report. represents about 3% of the total Idaho student population but they have high performing elementary, middle and high schools in the rankings. Update: Representative Redman introduced RS 33301 to the Idaho House Education Committee this morning. This is a proposal to allow up to a 4-year cycle for school supplemental levies, as opposed to the current 2-year limit. We are ecstatic that this has been granted a hearing!
Why this is a good thing for our community:
Improves efficiencies and financial stability-This allows us to budget more wisely and efficiently without creating and re-creating several “what-if” budget scenarios. It also allows us to responsibly budget for any strategic initiatives beyond a two-year window. The current model is an unnecessary drain on resources and distracts from the focus on the classroom.
Increased academic performance/improved staffing:
A 1-or-2 year levy cycle puts us at a significant disadvantage when attracting, recruiting and retaining talent. With fewer young adults choosing this career path, we need to be as attractive as possible for beginning educators when they’re deciding where they want to put their roots down. A 1 or 2-year cycle creates barriers that our border states don’t have.
Increased community health and cohesiveness:
Levy advocates and critics alike have experienced “levy fatigue”. Although things are improving, a 1 or 2- year levy is very taxing on our community and a burden on morale. These additional two years will play a healthy role in our community, and ultimately, in the classroom.
Thank you, Representative Redman!

Excited to share the results of The Coeur d’Alene School District #271 audit!
Today, the audit report was presented by Mr. Anthony Matson from Hayden Ross, who confirmed a clean opinion on the financial statements with no findings.
Mr. Matson joined in virtually via Teams and will be in person to present at the next board meeting on January 12th, 2026.
Huge kudos to the Executive Director of Finance, Tyler Morton, and his team. They accomplished this while simultaneously and successfully navigating a massive software conversion! Thank you all!
