Brevard Public Schools Head Start, in partnership with the Brevard Zoo, is honored to be recognized with this prestigious award. We extend our sincere thanks to the NHSA for this meaningful recognition and for celebrating the impact of our work with children and families.
Brevard Public Schools (official) Brevard Zoo Florida Head Start Association
Please join us in celebrating Brevard Public Schools Head Start and Brevard Zoo in Melbourne, Florida, recipients of the Edward Zigler Innovation Award from the National Head Start Association. They were honored last week during the National Head Start Conference and Expo in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Their partnership, known as Zoo Sprouts, brings hands-on, nature-based learning to Head Start children across Brevard County. What began with just five classrooms has grown into a countywide initiative serving all Head Start centers, helping children build early literacy, math, and science skills through outdoor exploration while strengthening family engagement.
By creating outdoor learning environments and expanding access for families, this collaboration shows what is possible when communities come together around children. Congratulations to both partners for advancing innovation rooted in connection, curiosity, and opportunity.

🚨End-of-School Year Update 🚨
🚨 End-of-School Year Update 🚨
Good news BPS Fam🎉 Thanks to a full school year with no hurricane day closures, all required instructional minutes will be completed earlier than planned! Here's what that means for families:
💛The last day for students is Friday, May 22, 2026. (5/20-5/22/26 will be early release days for exams.) This also includes Challenger 7 Modified Year Round Schedule.
💚While teachers will still be working on May 26–27 for required planning days, students will not attend school on those dates.
💛Childcare services are being planned to begin earlier to help accommodate the additional days students will be off school. More details will be shared as plans are finalized.
💚Senior testing schedules and seniors’ last days of school are determined by each school and are based on graduation dates. Graduation dates are not changing. 🎓
💛All other end of school ceremonies, to include Kindergarten and 6th grade promotion assemblies, are determined by each school. Please contact your school to confirm dates have not changed.
Sunscreen ready. Backpacks optional. Summer mode: unlocked. 😎🎒
